Towing on level 3 edge???

SO i have read and posted about towing on level 3 with an edge. I know that it hurts your Auto tranny from the shift points and firmness. I know that it akes your EGT's run high and burns up your cats. I have a 5spd and no cats. So does towing in level 3 still hurt my engine?

Well, you obviously won't have a problem with your cats and transmission, but the EGTs ought to still be a concern. How heavy are you towing, and in what terrain? I guess it is possible to do, but why not click the buton back to towing?

Level 2 is slightly richer and has slightly less timing to accomodate towing situations. I don't recommend towing anything heavier than a small trailer (boat or ATV type) on level 3.

Bill,
Can you back down the timing advance and WOT and run 87 or 89-91 octane fuel? I know this doesnt apply to towing but just curious.
Sorry for the thread hi-jack.

Yes... sort of. The timing advance option changes the whole table by x degrees. So while it would effectively reduce timing in the high-load regions for the timing table, it would also reduce cruise timing which would hurt fuel economy. The Level 2 timing tables take this into consideration and have lower timing in the mid to heavy throttle range to prevent detonation while still maintaining good cruise characteristics.

Hope this helps.

I towed my 16' boat everywhere with my F-150 on Level 3. Towed it like a dream.
