How to add power to 4.6L V8

I found some chips for the 4.6L V8 F-150. I am thinking about going with the Edge. It says I will gain around 30hp. If I do that, a cold air intake, and new muffler, how much more power can I expect? Also, what about a throttle body spacer?

Thanks

I have a 4.6 and have had the Edge. It does make a nice difference but it isn't huge. I sold mine. But, after doing some research I have found that the best mod I could do(Maybe you also) is getting my 3.55 gears changed to 4.10. When doing this it is good to have a tuner like the edge to be able to change your tire size and gear ratio so your shift points are good. So, gears and the edge are the best mod in my opinion. After that electric fans, exhaust adn then an intake.

Xcal2 or Xcal3 from www.VMPTuning.com, Magnaflow exhaust, and a intake of your choice.

Do not get a throttle body spacer, it's nothing better than a paper weight.

Search for removing the inner intake tube for the 4.6L 2v and add a performance drop in filter.

if you are planning to get a CAI, get custom tuning. i ran the edge with my intake and it didnt run very well, droned horribly. The edge is calibrated for a bone stock truck, not a modified engine. Now with custom tunes, no drone, and excellent performance, especially the transmission.

I have the 4.6 in an 03 Expedition

I did the following:

cold air intake (AF1) K&N would be just fine
Xcal2 w/ custom tunes - I only use the 93 tune
E-fans - FAL kit #295 - had to make some brackets as this is a "universal" kit
Underdrive pulleys - Summit Racing has the best deal in my opinion on their brand of pulleys
use Royal Purple oil - not sure if there is a difference or not.
Attached "Air Tabs" vortex generators to rear top and side windows; removed luggage rack. to help w/ poor aerodynamics.

The Ex is a heavy vehicle, heavier than the 150's. Stock programming was very restrictive in terms of allowing the vehicle to accelerate, reach WOT etc.

All the above mods have made it a new vehicle. Most recent are the pulleys. I can really fly if I want to. Passing I can go from 40 to 70 in 2-3 seconds, maybe less. Can bark the tires on dry pavement.

Picked up about 3 mpgs, maybe more on a good day of highway. Mostly from the fans and the pulleys. Best I did last summer w/fans was 19mpgs. Best this winter w/ pulleys was 17.5 mpgs. Hoping to go up to about 20 or more in summer w/out AC on

My friend is a mechanic for a port authority and works on all the fleet vehicles. He says the 4.6 is the performance engine and is very agreeable to mods. That's one of the reasons they use them in the Crow Vic Interceptors.

Another "my friend is a mechanic" story..

The 4.6l 2v is a reliable engine with decent power.

The 5.4l 4v IS the performance modular motor.

start with intake exaust and go from there.

fans and gears will help alot, but are a little more costly and take a heavier modification to the vehicle (cant be returned to stock as easily)

It must be the Mustang guy in me that has to differ. I know they used the 5.4L in the GT500, BUT the 4.6L was on the top 10 of the worlds best motors. I don't think the 5.4L made the list.

Edit: I'm talking about the 4.6 3V.

Mainly, I want to load it up with about 500lbs and be able to run in the mountains fine with 265's. I think a cold air intake and exhaust will be just enough to help.
