Fuel Mileage increase???

Im looking for a chip/tuner for my 97 4.6. I want one mostly for the mileage increase, and a little for the power. Can anybody tell me what kind of mileage increase they got out of there chips/tuners? Im considering the $240 performance module by Jet. Anybody have any oppinions or experience with Jet Chips? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

DO not get the jet. it taps into your iat and tricks your vehicle into thinking that the air is colder than it is and it will cause it to run lean. my buddy put one in his z24 cavalier and it burned crazy rich. it also got terrible fuel mileage. I wouldn't be buying anything for the mileage gains. I figured it out one day. you would have to put on roughly 50,000 miles for it to pay for itself, on a $400 chip.

not sure on a '97 4.6...but in my '07 5.4 i DID note an increase in MPG w/Edge Evo.

at first i only ran it at level 2 and the performance increase was noticeable but not much difference in MPG. they one day i tanked up with Premium fuel and put it on level 3.

i went from 15.1 stock to 17.4 MPG on level 3. never sat down with a calculator to figger how long it would take to break even but in my mind it is worth paying a few cents more per gallon to get better MPG

That gain rocks. I got KN, slowmasters SIDO and X2. I'm still getting 14.7 highway.

Stay clear from the jet chip-a retailer that sells them the salesman personally told me not to get a jet chip (and they had no other chips or anything that fit my truck so he wasnt pulling my chain)

I have an 07 F150 with X3 from troyer and while the performance increase is awsome-the fuel milage is the same as stock tune with 87 or 93. So no loss in MPG but also no gain in MPG. The performance improvemant alone is worth the money

Please send me a PM with your email address (I can't PM yet). I'd greatly like to discuss the installation of the HAFC kit with you. I, too, have ordered one which will be going into my '99 5.4L 4x4 F150. I've had many in-depth discussions regarding the kit, it's usage, highlights, and downfalls, though I haven't had any hardware in my hands (yet). I've had many conversations with the developer of the electronic "O2ptomizer" as to exactly how the kit forces the ECU to accept the parameters.

I will also need an ECM wiring diagram for my pickup ('99 F150 4x4 5.4L 4R70W).

Pinhead,

I tried to PM you the links for the diagrams, but you have PM's disable so you're out of luck.

jdad,

I am working on yours. Those are a little bit trickier since I don't have a service DVD for that year. Hang tight though... I've got other avenues.

The Forum won't let me send/receive PM's until I've been a member for 90 days or have 100 posts.

Well using this gas station in Santa Fe Phillips 66
1103 Cerrillos Rd & W Cordova Rd regular is $2.87 and premium is $3.07.

In 10,000 miles you would spend $1900.65 in regular gas@15.1MPG's and $1764.35 in premium gas@17.4MPG's (of course providing my math is correct).

So, in 30,000 miles an Evo (or presumably any programmer that improves fuel economy to the same degree) would pay for itself. Not to mention, it would be more fun to drive. In fact, even if you only went from 15.1 to 16.1 MPG, you'd break even.
