canned tunes or custom tunes
canned tunes or custom tunes
As I am narrowing my choices for which tuner to purchase, I thought of a couple more questions. I did some searching, but haven't come up with clear answers.
I used to own a 2000 f150 super cab with a 5.4l., and a superchips max micro tuner. I really liked this tuner because of the way it changed the shifting. The shift setup options were: stock, superchips, or custom. I ran the superchip setup because I dont really want to start manually changing shift points and shift pressures. Do most of these tuners (Xcal, Flashpaq, edge evolution) have pre-programmed shift setups like the "superchips" setup on the max micro tuner.
The last question I have is about the need for a custom tuner over a canned tune. At this point the only modification I will be making is the tuner. Some day I may change the exhause, but I doubt I will ever change the intake. With the tuner being the only modification, would I really see the benefits of a custom tune over a canned tune?

Two of the tunes can me modified for shifting, tire size, gears, timing, etc. It adds about 25 HP and is great if you are not doing a lot of modding. It handles an exhaust change just fine and provides a wide range of gauges which I depend on now. The custom tuners can get you an extra 10 or 15 HP if that is what you are wanting, plus they can tune for an intake mod. Just depends on what a person wants. I am very happy with the Edge, would hate to do without it.
If I could have afford the wait and the cost, I would have went with Custom tunes, but I am very happy with the route I chose. Just food for thought.
