Troyer Xcal 3 installed

Well, I returned from an 8 hour drive from Atlanta today to find my AF1 3.5" intake and Troyer tuned Xcal 3 waiting for me. I immediately went to work on installing the intake. After awhile I finally got it installed, correctly I hope. Some of the instructions are vague leaving you to figure it out on your own.

I have a question on installing the tunes....I didn't read any kind of manual on how to use the Xcal. I just read Troyers paperwork and then fooled with the Xcal. I just pushed the button and saw the first thing was load tune so I loaded the custom tune I ordered and did no other options. You don't have to hook it to a laptop first right? The tune is preloaded in the Xcal already?

Anyhow, that's what I did and then I went for a drive. I had been using a K & N drop in and Edge on level 3 for sometime now. Initially I noticed the throttle response was far more sensitive. I only drove it for about 15 mins doing mostly WOT deap stop starts. From my butt dyno it's hard to tell if the two mods made a difference over what I had before. I think it's faster but it's such a big truck it's hard for me to notice. I thought the Edge was doing pretty well. I did notice right away that the shifts are A LOT better than level 3 standard. They are much smoother under normal acceleration whereas Edge thought you were racing no matter what and slammed it.

I'll have some more input tomorrow after I do some more driving in it and normal driving versus the rare WOT that I do. The intake does sound awesome and I can't hear any kind of whistling or annoying sounds like my friedns K & N on his 5.4 That thing is ridiculous.

Anyway, glad I finally got this thing. After a few more days of driving hopefully I'll notice a nice difference.

Yes if your X3 was preloaded you just load the tune to the truck directly from the hand held.

The WOT is nice but the partial throttle, midrange, and shifts will be what you end up really appreciating I bet.

That's what I'm thinking too. If I had to choose I'd rather have more midrange and better shifts for everyday driving than just more WOT power. Anxious to get some driving in.

dead stops you wont feel a huge huge difference over the edge. wait untill your on the interstate and need a downshift to 2nd gear pull to pass a big truck, THEN you will be blown away.

x2 on the transmission shifts, that is my favorite part about the tunes. tranny feels amazing.

x2

The shifts are the most impressive improvement, at any rpm. Passing is a breeze now.. Never thought I'd say that with a Screw!!.. LOL

I've been running the 93 perf tune for about a month now and it still makes me smile like an idiot..
