Superchips chip?

A guy came up to me wanting to know if I wanted a free chip that was on the truck he used to have. He had a 99 5.4 auto 4x4 and my truck is a 97 4.6 5spd 4x4. Will it work with mine? Also I didn't know they made chips for these trucks, I thought that they were all delt with by using programmers?

They do indeed have chips. I have an old chip for my '97 4.6L. I didn't really notice much improvement from it except for the firmed up shifting (mine is an auto). It has only one program that required I run 91 or better octane.

Uhh I'm not so sure it will work, you will most likely have a different PCM and since his is for an automatic truck and yours is a manual, even if you did try to load the tune it would probably error out or mess up your PCM since it will be trying to adjust transmission shift points, the redline, and shift pressures when it can't.

Ask him for the ID code of his PCM, then look on your PCM box and see if the code is the same, it should be different.

Well I think I will just get it and turn around and sell it. Don't want to pay for high octane espically with oil less than $3 away from hitting $100. Thanks guys. Anyone want a chip for their truck?
