Question Strictly Fuel Mileage

Hey everybody I'm new here and just bought an '08 F150 Supercrew. I am looking possibly for a chip that will help improve my fuel mileage. I don't really need much more power and the biggest tire size I would ever go to is 33" on the 20" stock wheels (but if it's a side product, I'll learn to deal ). I also will add exhaust and intake since those help somewhat on fuel mileage. I'm fine with the truck the way it is but if I can make it look better on gas to the wife then that means more toys for the Mustang. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Pretty much any of the programmers available today will help improve mileage. Many people have been quite happy with a Troyer tuned X-Cal while I prefer the Evolution. Most gains are on the order of 2 to 3 MPG increases in fuel economy, not to mention the ride is just a little bit more fun. Sooner or later, there will be more posts in here. C'mon, fellas!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply

Hey, thanks for the reply, I'd love to get more feedback as to which ones give you the most mpgs. Also, I'm thinking I would like the most mpgs on 87 octane fuel. If 2 to 3 is what they're getting thats pretty awesome, then combine that with air intake and freely flowing exhaust and the mpgs would be somewhat respectable I think (except when towing the Mustang of course). Thanks in advance for all your help. Any other recommendations you have for the 5.4 3V 150s are appreciated as well.

Hi.

You'll find that, in general, tuners that allow you to run and take advantage of the highest octane quality fuel will also give you the best mileage. The reason has a lot to do with BSFC improvements (Google the term or search here for more on this).

If you go for true custom tuning, you can specify a 'mileage' tune from certain vendors.

If you have the means, try monitoring throttle position - typically shooting for the smallest TP that will maintain desired speed will net you the best mileage. A Scangauge, Dashhawk or Edge will facilitate this.

Be advised that driving style will quickly negate any gains, as will anything less than exemplary maintenance. One lazy O2, one fouled fuel filter, one dirty air filter, one marginal sparkplug, one dragging brake caliper or one underinflated set of tires - all bets are off.

My #1 recomendation for a 5.4 3V? --> http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...catalogno=9400

Good luck.
