Extra XCALII tunes
Hello, I have an XCALII with 87 perf 87 tow and 93 tow. I searched through the old posts but couldn't find any info. Is it possible to order an exta tune from Troyer Performance in addition the the three I already have. Obviously I would have to store one file on my computer. I would like to get a 93 perf tune. Thanks
Hi Wally;
Yes indeed - as many as your hard drive will hold!
Check this out - sorry it took so long to find...
Your selection of tunes (for most owners) really depends on how much towing you do, IMHO. If you do not do a LOT of heavy towing, then I recommend going with an 87 octane performance tune, and then a premium gas towing tune, and then last, a premium gas performance tune.
That way, you have performance tunes for *both* levels of octane, and then if you do need to tow a heavy load, chances are you are going to want the most power you can get, so a premium gas towing tune makes the most sense.
Now you can still use your "performance" tunes in an off road setting, that is not a problem. The only time you need to change over to a "towing" tune is when you are going to tow, basically - in other words, with our performance tuning you can use that vehicle in any manner that you could on the stock factory tune *except* towing. And the difference there is primarily a matter of certain changes in tuning we make on towing tunes differently form performance tunes to help keep the EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures) down when the truck is under a sustained heavy load, like towing a heavy load up a grade, etc.
Now one other though is this: we have a number of people who will pay us a little extra for additional tunes they store on their PC's hard drive, and swap into the tuner whenever they want. In other words, though the tuner itself is limited to holding a total of 3 of our custom tunes at any one time, we can do *additional* tunes you can store on your PC that you can load into your tuner whenever you want, to have even more tunes available. And you can do this an unlimited number of times. This gives those who want additional tunes the ability to have literally an unlimited number of our custom tunes available on tap - for example, we have some guys who have the first 3 tunes I mentioned, but then they will also have say, a 100 octane drag race tune, and then towing tunes for 87, 89 & premium gas, and so on. There's no limit to that, it's just a matter of a little bit extra for each additional tune once you go over 3 tunes, and when people do that, we send their tuner loaded up with their first 3 tunes, and then we also provide them with *all* of their tunes in a format they can store on their PC and use to write over the tunes already in the tuner at any time.
Now I do not mean to confuse you on this, just letting you know that if for some reason 3 tunes are not enough, you can always have us do additional tunes and store them on your hard drive for whenever you needs to use them, and when you do, just connect your tuner via it's USB cable and overwrite the tune(s) you won't be using with the different tune you want to use for whatever else it is you want different.
Most people get by just fine with 3 different tunes, but for those who sometimes want just 1 more (or more), that too, is an option.
If you need any further advice on this, just give us a call.
