Troyer Performance Buyer Beware Part 2

I would like to inform all that Troyer Performance has made me a happy customer. They handled my concern with complete class even thought I was a little to harsh. I will have my tunes very soon and I'm sure they will be as great as every one says they are. Luke

Glad they came through, I just have 10 weeks left fax over sheets last night.

Kinda funny how yet another person has come in here, raised hell about Troyer, then actually talked with Mike and are turned around 180 degrees and become a "happy customer". Personally I think that says loads about their customer service.

I had a couple issues the A/F ratio's and ended up speaking with Mike several times. In the end I couldn't be any happier with my Troyer tunes and the service I received.

I didn't buy from them and they didn't want to make things right with me.

I've talked about it numerous times on here and Mike's never said anything to me about it.

Well, if you didn't buy from them, then you weren't a customer.

It doesn't surprise me that Mike hasn't said anything to you on the boards. Mike's said it before, and it says in the paperwork you get when you do order that the best way to contact them is by phone. I believe they even say that message boards are NOT considered appropriate places for correspondence.

I don't know what your particular beef with TP was Thump, but really it's your loss and not theirs.

I have been to Troyer Performance 5x now, with the 05 and now the 06, for dyno days and custom dyno/install times. Had efans and ud pulleys installed day before last dyno day in June. Neil did the fans and pulleys, Mike, of course, loaded latest firmware on the xcal2 so he could get at some new parameters and scrapped and rebuilt my custom tunes from scratch again!! Have to say, the throttle response on this round is best yet - this guy just gets better every time ! Every time I visit, I am treated with the kindest hospitality and honesty from all, Mike, Anita, Neil, Crystal and everyone else. Any negative post on this crew is completely unjustified and sounds rather stupid to those who know otherwise. They are damn good and there are a whole lot of us that want our trucks tuned by them. This is real life experience from my many phone orders/questions as well as site visits. You need to wait your turn in line and you will be taken care of quite well. You also need to understand that if you were there and paying for dyno time, you would want Mikes undivided attention on your truck on the dyno, not on the phone answering the 1000's of questions we all have.

Anyone within driving distance, advice for what it is worth, not bashing anyones mods, and my opinion of course,,, I have an Edge, in the box, in the garage next to an Airaid intake. Wasted $$ on mods. Should have made a Troyer Performance Stage 2 package installation appointment from the beginning. I bet you could get the appointment, installation and dyno'ed for the correct A/F's on the AF1 3.5" intake all done in the same wait time as getting tunes shipped out. ( I am 5 hours from their shop ). The addition of the efans and ud pulleys was worth it for better off line launches. Done and happy with truck perf mod's. Now I can concentrate on either the new stang or just drove a charger srt8 this week. Tough decision here...

I was going to be a customer but wasn't treated properly on the phone. I work in sales, I'm nice, I know how things work but didn't get it in return. Why would I purchase from someone like that? I know that Troyer has many customers that are treated well but thats not enough to make me "chance" it.

Too bad that I tried to contact him numerous times on the phone but could never get him on the phone. Basically he was too busy for my phone call.

I have no beef with Troyer. I do have a problem with the people who preach him as God as there are no other tuners in this world that can tune a F150 like he can. When someone wants to know who to go to for tuning, I more times than not throw his name out there after mentioning VMP Tuning. That's no beef. I don't consider it a loss at all either. . especially when theres a member here who has had both Troyer and VMP Tunes and had better times with the VMP Tune. I'm not going to get into a debate about who's better etc.

Well put Thump, I'm in similar shoes. I was treated decent, but I had high expectations, until I had warranty issues that did not change. I had to build my own kit after purchasing their $400+ e-fan kit, and their tuning wasn't everything it was cracked up to be, but it was good. I did not like the way my pedal felt after the tuning, it was like it was either ON or OFF, half throttle or full throttle only. Of course I'm exaggerating a little, but not much. Little wierd, I was told by another tuner maybe they created their own throttle graphs in the software which there is a disclaimer of knowledge before doing so.

I definitely have no 'beef' either but I'm not going to give them any brownie points when I lost out on so much money with their efan kit (which I've replaced every part, most at separate times due to separate failures).

I can vouch for that, i felt it.

With barely any throttle position (~10%) the truck would accel. to 2500-3000rpm before a shift.

I understand what you are talking about Thump, I had a hard time getting Mike to call be back to discuss a problem after I had some work done at this shop. Actually after the third phone call I made to them Mike did speak with me for about 45 minutes about my problem. Mike is very good at what he does...I am just not very pleased with his phone etiquette or the service after the sale.

Funny how this thread starts out as a retraction from an earlier thread on these boards, and how T.P has now made this person a happy customer, yet the (almost) bashing continues. Just can't please all of the people all of the time! It's damned near impossible.

This is hardly bashing.. Voicing your experiences and opinions is what a internet forum is about.

I wished I lived closer to him. I'd love to get a few more toys installed, and have him update me on the dyno, but, alas, that's a bit of a drive...

well im very pleased with his service and his work. you can never please everyone in the world and some really arent worth trying to please. i talked with troyer before i ever took him my truck and he spent about an hour on the phone with me. letting me know what does and does not work. he explained how the truck basically functions in terms that i could understand and what to do and not to do. hell he wouldnt even let me buy somethings for my truck that i wanted because he told me it was a waste of money and ti did not need it. the kicker is i was going to buy them from him so thats money he did not make. very rare in life is there someone has honest and open has mike that you meet. after basically spending an hour with me i still didnt buy anything from him because i was on my way for r&r from iraq. when i arrived home i did a lot of searching because i wanted the warranty on my truck, (piece of mind thing thats why i went with roush) and he explained the differences between roush, whipple, and the new so awesome saleen. well i gave him a deposit and dropped my truck off. i arrived at his shop wednesday morning like i was told to and he said my truck would be ready saturday. he even gave me a ride in a truck that he had just finished to see what the driveability would be like and i was sold. i also brought the gms coils while there and had the longtube dyna's and efans already installed. i'm going to change to his fans because i dont like my flexalites and the way they work. my truck was not ready saturday. did i get upset and start bashing troyer performance. no need to because when someone gives you a time its all PROJECTED anything can occur. the thing is he could have rushed the truck out the shop and met a deadline but he took his time and said the he would call me when its ready. plus the pcm cameback late from roush (not mike's fault). he did call me monday morning and tell me my truck was ready. i hit the road with the wifey and arrived there at around 5:30. when i arrived he took me and the wife for a test drive and before he started opening it up we took a civil drive and i couldnt even tell the truck had a supercharger. it was nice and quiet except for the exhaust which is great and all recommended by troyer from our first conversation. he set the cruise and demonstrated how it did on hills and the driving manner. then the fun began. just stomping the truck from a dead literally roasted the tires, had the truck pulling sideways and the acceleration was unbelievable. did about a 45 mph roll and laid into and even my wife was surprised at how well it ran because every now and then when i got beside her at lights in her max she would just flat out leave me. mike explained everything to us in great detail that we asked about. the last time my wife and i left a light i got ahead about a truck length and held her off to a 105 and got out before she started to come around me. the only bad thing mike did to me was make my truck so much fun that now my wife is constantly driving it. hell shes taking it back to him to get the blower ported for me. he has her being a truck woman now from his customer service. has i see it most that do not get along with troyer has has anything negative to say 1 doesnt have a clue to what they want or what is going on 2 doesnt realize that he has to run a business and cant stay on the phone all day shooting the breeze with you 3 he has talked to you and you dont want to listen and want to waste his time telling him what you think you know 4 just isnt worth the possible headache that you are going to bring. mike tunes the hell out of a truck but nothing is ever quite perfect. if theres a quirk in the tuning let him know, he will fix it. dont say my truck doesnt run right and some other tuner is better. there maybe be better ones out there but im not looking. i have a few friends that are going to be taking there trucks all to him and im sure he will make more off us getting full blown superchargers than tying him up on the phone all day for a tune. guess what if you stop calling him all the time and let him work you will defintely get your tunes a lot faster. peace

and one more thing. the fastest tune isn't always the safest tune or whats best for the vehicle. hell i ran my best times on the lean side and end up tearing the motor down the next day wondering how come it just ran so fast and now the things blowed up
