Edge Vs. Bullydog. Troyer ?

Just came across the bullydog gas pup (or whatever they call it) and they have made one for our trucks. This looks like a real nice kit and it allows you to mess with you **** points and the firmness. Wondering any one have any experience with this tuner? Like it? hate it?
On the Edge, can you also play around with your shift points and what not or are you stuck with whatever tune they already provide you with?
Lastly, All you running the Troyer custom tunes: About how much did it cost (if ya don't mind) and about how long of a wait? Also any feedback on any of these (or others) would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a cure for constipation & regularity!

Yes - Custom settings are possible.

About the same as the Edge, now ( with 3 tunes of your choice). There is a longer queue currently, but I waited ~ 4 weeks last year.

While I've never used the Bullydog myself, I do know that it's just another "canned" tuner. Any performance differences between it and Edge/Superchips/Predator/etc are going to be negligible. If the difference in cost is close, I'd go with custom tunes.

With the custom tunes, can i change them later? Right now i am fairly stock and would like the tunes for my truck as is. But then as i go bigger tires, different gears, etc can i have the tunes customed to my new mods? Or would I have to pay the full price all over again? Should i just wait til most mods are on?

Hi.

If it's things like gears, & tires - you can do those adjustments on the device (then reflash) yourself.

If you drop in a CAI that is known to require a tune tweak, you'd need to have your tuner person send you a revised set of tunes, which you can then load into the device. Those will usually be a nominal extra charge after the fact - but you should always ask about that up front. (Sometimes, if you buy a certain intake from a certain tuner, the adjustments are provided as part of the purchase lol).

If you know in advance which mods you want to add, before ordering the tuning, you can get those optimizations incorporated when the tuning is first written, so no extra charge.

Hope this helps.

Sure did, Thanks a lot Bubba. nice and clear cut. Looks to me the best way to go is the custom tuners! Anyone know any downside? Is there ANY plus for the Edge over the custom tuner? Other than quicker delivery...

Hi.

Yes - the gauge displays, if you don't already have another type of display or discrete analog gauges.

That's it, though.

Note that you can get custom tuning in an SCT LiveWire device, which offers PID displays, but that product is still in it's 'maturing' phase IMHO, and is more $$$.

Hey thanks Chester That thread was more than just helpful. One questions, and maybe I just overlooked it. With the Edge, its always plugged in right? Now what about the dealer re-flash issue? Can you set your truck back to stock... then un-plug the edge? just to bring it to the dealer ?

Only if you like looking at it. You can just program the truck and take it out if you want.

I've never had them flash my computer, but if you were worried about it, you can just return the vehicle to stock in the dealer parking lot. Leave the edge where it is, or take it out. It doesn't matter.

Yes. But here's the deal with that.

Canned tuners like the Edge genericize to the first 5 characters of the full 7 character strategy code; e.g ABCDEF1.

So if the dealer reflashes from ABCDEF1 to say ABCDEF2, then you are probably good to go after a reconnect, since it's within the same "family'

But if the reflash is to something like ABCDHF1, you are likely either flat SOL - or the truck may run goofily if you try a reload and it takes - if the current calibration revision in the Edge hasn't got support for ABCD[B]Hxx[/xx] in it, and no update is available. It's happened.

Interesting. If you want to avoid this, tell the dealer not to re-flash your pcm.

Sorry! I made typing boo-boo's in my post - I corrected them ( the strategy code character counts were wrong )

Agree -->TELL them not to reflash. The sneeky fekkers sometimes manage to do it anyway
