Is the Edge for me?

Hey everyone...

I have a 2005 STX (Magnaflow exhaust, silencer removed from stock intake), and I'm looking for a good upgrade thats going to give a noticeable difference. I've done a lot of research, and from what I've gathered it seems a canned tune might be more of what I'm looking for due to the following reasons:

1.) I don't want to wait! lol
2.) I'm not looking for anything crazy. Just basic stuff that will improve my performance.

I don't do any towing with my truck, so I'm not even sure if its worth it just for that reason. Is the performance setting that much of a difference?

Two more questions I need answered:

1.) Does it affect the life of the truck? I'd think running the engine harder might cut down on some of the life expenctancy of the vehicle.
2.) I've read that once an Edge is installed, its specific to that truck, therefore it can only be used with that truck... but I've seen listings on Ebay that say it was used, ect. So I'm guessing the person selling doesn't realize or they are just trying to scam someone.

Thanks for any help guys!

1) I love my Edge!
2) It will make a BIG improvement in performance
3) No waiting just order wait 2-5 days easy to install and setup.
4) Theres people that have been running the Edge with +60K all depends the setting you run just guessing.
5) The edge "IS" interchangeable for other same model trucks! My friend just bought one here in the forums from a guy and he set his truck back to stock and shipped it to my friend. When you set it up it will pick up your truck hex code and thats it start programing.

The Edge is for anyone who would like to increase the performance of their truck. No it won't affect the longevity of your truck. And yes, they are interchangeable as long as it is the same set of years, ie 97 - 03 trucks, 04 - present, etc.

Towing = Blah. Not much difference. But the performance setting DOES produce a noticable gain. Drops a second or more off of 1/4 times. Drops a second off of 0-60 times. (over stock) But it DOES require high octane fuel. If you burn 87 octane on level 3, the gains are negligible. But 30 seconds after you put the good stuff in, it will rock and roll!

Shifts are harder, ESPECIALLY on the towing tune (I NEVER use it, it sucks)

Affect the life? Well it won't prolong it, but it's all in how you drive. IMO. If you drive easy, it probably won't hurt it enough to make a difference. Besides if you can afford a 2005 model truck and risk loosing the warranty on a tuner, you're probably not going to keep the truck 300,000 miles anyway.

Nope. But they are specific to the generation of your truck, eg. (97-03) or (04-?)

But you can get scammed on ebay. I won't go into that here, but I'll give you a link to a post that will explain how they work.

I believe an Edge is most definately for you. Pretty much everything has been said, except I noticed that Chester does not like level II...I have been using level II for a little while now, and love it! I have not tried level III however, and from my understanding, level III does more of a high-range speed set, as Level II is better for getting on it from the light. That is just what I have understood from previous posts. Also I don't feel like tanking up for 2.88 instead of 2.71 :-/ just personal pref.

Thanks for all the quick responses people!

I'm definatly going to start heaviliy considering purchasing one of these units. Just need to save up some extra cash.

Is there anywhere specific that will give the best deal on it? Now that I know it can be switched from truck to truck, is there any risk (other than the normal ebay risks) with getting it from ebay?

Also, I don't have an intake, I've only removed the silencer like I stated above, is this going to be a problem? Should I possibly purchase an intake first and then think about getting the edge?

As long as the seller returned their vehicle to stock, it should work on your truck. Just make sure you buy the right evolution for your generation truck.

I don't see that it really matters. I have heard that the large Air Force 1 intakes have a habbit of causing lean conditions. I have never had any personal experience with this, but some on this site have. As I understand it, the problem can be corrected a number of ways, the most common being custom tuning. But its something to remember if you're thinking about the edge, as it won't automatically correct for this problem.

Awesome guys, thanks for all the great info!

One more quick question:

I know that the edge has like an integrated pod holder so it makes it almost look from the factory, but I've also seen the pods in black and gray.

My truck has mostly gray interior, but the area where the pod would sit to the left of the steering wheel is actually black. When you purchase does it come with the option of either black or gray? Or what?

Thanks again guys!

It comes in black. Anybody who has one that isn't black painted it themselves...

Yup. You can order a can of spraypaint from your dealership that matches your interior color. Under $20 I think... Some paint codes are in that post that I gave you in an earlier reply, but you dealer can decipher it with the trim code from your truck.
