FYI - problem in XcalII Livelink software

I posted a more detailed tale of woe in the Engine forum, but wanted to bring this to everyone's attention. I've been using the XcalII with Troyer tunes for almost a year now. Tunes are fine. I also have been datalogging my truck, an O3 Expediton 4.6, since that time too. During my initial logs I noticed that my Bank 2 O2 sensor was sluggish. I began trying to fix that problem with new and swapped O2's, searching for leaks, checking wiring - everything you can think of. I have made many, many posts on this and other forums searching for help with this presumed problem.

Recently I logged again and included the downstream O2's as well, which I hadn't done before as Troyer does not need that for their tune assessment, should you care to send them your tune file. Anyway, I did it and while checking the log I noticed something funny about the 4 O2 readings.

It looked like Bank 1 up and downstream were showing what looked like regular upstream readings - fast switching, 0 to .9 volts. Bank 2 up an down both looked like downstream readings. As you probably know, the two upstream sensors are providing fuel control feedback to the computer, and should switch back and forth in their voltage from about .1 to .9, with the average hovering around .45. The rear sensors monitor the effectiveness of the converts and react much more slowly. Each Bank has one fast (upstream) and slow (downstream). They should not have the same reading on upper and lower sensors on the same banks.

What I have been looking at all this time on Bank 2 upstream was actually a downstream sensor, mislabled by the LiveLInk software, leading me to think I had a lazy O2 or a system malfunction somewhere.

I confirmed this by logging my truck with a friend's non SCT logger. All O2's were fine.

Here's the punch line - A call to SCT suggested that the livelink version that I had which came with the Xcal on a CD was "old" and may have errors in the PID database. I should download the latest version and try logging again.

Well I did, and found that the 02 readings were perfect.

So, if you haven't already, you should go get the latest (version 4) livelink for the Xcal II (for your PC actually). I'm not sure if there are other errors in the database, but I do know that the 02's are correctly labled this time.

Unfortunately it took me 9 months and a few hundred dollars to find out my problem was not a malfunctioning truck but a typo or something in the software database.

So if you are planning to datalog, log all your O2's anyhow just to make sure everything is doing what its' supposed to.

good luck.
