Help: Edge and a New Battery

Hello all,

I want to upgrade the battery in my truck as I am getting a new sound system that may/will require it. My question is? What is the protocol with the Edge? Should I flash it back to stock before I disconnect the battery? Will I have to start all over on setting up my Edge when I replace the battery? I just want to do things correctly so that I don't "F" up my Edge. I have never had any issues/problems with it so far and I don't want to start now by me doing something stupid.

Anyway, any help on what I should do would be appreciated!

Just throw a battery in it. I took mine out last night cuase i was working on the altenator. I have disconected the battery and put it together many times with my edge and there hasn't been a problem.

Go for it. The edge rewrites the computer so the computer wont know the differance. Its just like having the stock program in it.

Nope. Just disconnect as you normally would ( vehicle off).

Reconnect when the new batt is in.

This is the beauty of non-volatile memory.

Thanks guys! Last thing I wanted was a dead Edge on my hands! Next question? Maybe not the right place for it, but anyway...

What's the best biggest CCA battery I should look at? I was thinking about a Interstate Megatron. Any others that may be better? Thanks again!!!

Yep, a lot of guys say the Optima Yellow Top, and they have them at Sam's Club here, but I doubt it is any better than the Top Interstate. Either would probably be just fine. Do a search on Yellow Top and see what some have had to say.

Do you leave your stereo or some other accessory running for long periods of time w/ the engine off? If not, when I was looking at new batteries, the Optima red top actually fit my needs better. Honestly, I dont remember everything I read about the differences but I know the charging of the battery and how much you drove the vehicle lead me to believe the red top was the way to go.

Honestly? I have not looked into the Red Top. I was considering the Yellow Top as that seems to be the battery of choice.
