Newby datalog question

I am preparing to install my LMA-3 and need to know what to use for a tach signal. Do i use a splice from the crank sensor or cam sensor or is there a tach signal wire somewhere in the harness? Thanks for any and all help!

Well, I see you posted this Q on Innovate's forum. Good move.

There should be a tach signal or equivalent - don't remote start//alarm systems use a similar input?

Or, you can try the hobbyist approach - a few turns of insulated small gauge solid wire wrapped around a plug wire if you have no COPS), OR a straight splice into the primary COP signal if you do.

Also - you can always just buy Innovate's inductive clamp.

Good luck.

well, i don't think i can use the inductive clamp because of the system being a wasted spark type. i just can't find anything in a wiring schematic that shows a tach signal.

Yes, you can. The setup software for the Innovate products allow you to specify spark source type so it can derive an actual rpm from almost any ignition system configuration. My LM-1 /LMA-2 does, anyway.
