Edge Tunes Towing
Edge Tunes Towing
I figured this discussion needed it's own thread. Most of the Edge tunes seem to be focused on everyday driving or stoplight-to-stoplight. Two questions:
Has anyone worked on settings specifically for towing?
I realize why Edge and others don't recommend towing at the Level 3 settings, but why is there concern about Level 2, Tow settings? From the Edge web site:Only use level 2 if you are towing a light load. It seems to me that although you shouldn't go beyond the Gross recommended for your chassis, brakes etc., you shouldn't have to back off the weight without having to go back to Level 1. Could they just be talking about the diesel setups?

I just got done with towing my truck and trailer over 1200 miles on my tune. I have a 4.6 so i dont know if it is differnt. i towed mine on the perfomance tune for towing(level 2) and towed on 92 octane the thwe whole way. I adjested the timeing and i also adjusted the WOF to 160%. It towed fine and i was able to do things loaded that icouldn't do stock LOL
i also have a 5spd though.
I would do it again without thinking about it.
Copied this right out of the manual for the F150 Evo.
"Tow Performance Program (87+ octane fuel)
This setting not only provides improved transmission shifting, but will also modify the ignition timing and fuel injection strategies to improve the performance of your vehicle. This level is designed to run with 87 octane fuel, although you may realize additional benefits by running 89 octane (or better) fuel. You should see an improvement in fuel economy as well as added horsepower and torque. When towing a heavy load such as a boat or camper, we recommend you using this setting."

I do not tow anything and I always run my evo on LV2 with 87 octane only, I hope it is not bad for my truck but I like the shift points and I noticed when I tweak my shift firmness on LV2 to 16 it shifts harder than 16 on LV1.
