confused about tuners
confused about tuners
I've been researching intake systems and have concluded that I want to get the aFe kit. I saw that there was 2 kinds to get, 3" and 3.5". I read that you needed a tuner if you wanted the 3.5". I have a lot of questions and am a bit confuses, so hopefully yall can help me out. So my questions are:
1- what are the benifts of a 3.5" over 3"? (I know that the 3.5 isnt legal or voids the warranty)
2- Why does the 3.5" require a tuner?
3- What does the Troyer tuned XCAL2 do that makes it the "best"?
4- Why does it take so long to get an XCal2 and whats the process of getting one? (I read something about worksheets?????)
5- Whats the EDGE and is it even a tuner?
6- Is it worth getting all this?
Thanks!

2. it takes in sooo much air that the PCM cannot adjust to a correct ration. anyone, please correct me if im wrong.
3. its like having a suit tailored to you. you will not find an off the shelf suit that will fit and make you look better.
that being said, if you ever sell the 3.5" CAI or the troyer intake youll have a hard time(at least with the tuner) since the tunes were custom made to the PCM of your truck and your needs. if someone else buys the tuner, they will have to send it back to Tp and have the new owner pay another buck 1/2 or so to have it retuned. so, you pay over 4 bills or whatever for it, youll only sell it for $1-2 if your lucky.
the 3.5"CAI will only be bought by someone with a tuner. not sure if it has to be a TP tuner. dont know if the edge or superchips will work on it.
4. many custom tunes requests/good business/ect make the wait time long. especially if your hand crafting the tunes.
5. the edge from what i hear, is a good tuner if it works right. youll have to read what others say and find out for your self if you like it. youll read lots of good and bad about it.
6. if you want gained HP then yes. i currently have the 1815 Superchips that i got from fleabay for 2 bills. it works great. i already had the CAI and a the Manga SISO and felt good gains. now that i have the tuner, i can feel it even more. i like the shift points now and the added HP along with a bit better MPG.
in a nutshell, if you care about every HP u can get and have the $$(and time to wait) go TP.
if you care about resale and still want really decent performance gains, then consider other tuners.

btw, youll probably hear others tell you to use the search button...
