3.5 AF1 Intake Filter Cleaning
Most manufacturers say when they accumulate 1/8" of a coating or dirt and etc.. Personally I clean mine every 3rd oil change. I have a spare that is always clean and ready when its time. And I use the "red" oil

I guess I'll do every 3rd oil change (15,000 miles) since I have no way of measuring 1/8" of dirt.
The blue has faded and part of the filter is black. It's been roughly 15,000 miles so I'm guessing it's ready.
I'll call TP tomorrow and see if they see the individual filters.
Thanks Marc.

I've been buying new one every 6 months... Just call Troyer and you'll get it in about 3 days! Gettin kinda expensive but I change my own oil so in my simple mind, it justifies the expense...

From the pictures I've seen posted here, it looks like you just pop the hood and take a look at it. If it reminds you of screen in your dryer, clean it.
If you never look at your dryer screen, why worry?.

I was told by one of the ladies at TP that you didn't need to clean it until 50K. I bought the cleaning kit anyways @ 15k and so far cleaned it 2x with the cleaner/oil and 1x with just oil.
She said that I would only need to buy the kit once and it would last the life of the vehicle. However, I am going to buy another kit when the cleaning solution runs out of my first.
Hope this helps.

Bear in mind that the initial fine dust filtering efficiency (clean) versus the cumulative (dirty) efficiency is fairly close with the dryflow at 98.6% clean and 99.4% dirty - so you won't sacrifice too much filtering ability by cleaning it (unlike cotton/oil filters).

I think I'll clean it every 15K to be safe or when it starts getting dark like it is now.

EDIT: Side note- has anyone noticed Mike hasn't posted on the forum for over a month? That's not like him, I wonder if everything is ok or if it's just a little slow around here or busy for him.
