A few Edge Questions

First off sorry if Im posting a question that someone has already asked if so feel free to post the link to it.

I just bought a Edge from a member and Im not going to run 91/93 octane at this time, but will start running higher octane down the road.

I just installed the software and updated the Edge to the lastest version that was shown stable.

Till I learn more about all the setting I was going to set the edge at LVL1, but have a question like on the box it says 35HP gain. Do you have to be in LVL 3 to get this extra HP?

I have 325/65/18 tires and going to setup the Tire size on the Edge tomorrow. Now on the gear Ratio its stock should the Edge auto pick up my gear Ratio or will I Need to find out my what mine is and set it up?

I seen some settings on the EDGE but most of them were people running LVL3. Does anyone recommand any settings for LVL1 or 2 for a newbie?
Not sure what can be changed if any unless you have to run LVL3 being performance.

I have a camper and was going to leave it at default at LVL2 when I use it. Hoping to learn more as I go a long.

I really want to get all the perfromance out of my edge but want to take little steps till I Know what should be changed and by how much. Im really surprised edge doesnt have more custom setting you can D/L.

Any other advice on a newbie just learning the ropes of the edge would be greatly apperciated! Oh and incase your wondering why I bought the Edge and dont know to much about it is because I wanted something I could change my MPH having bigger tires, hoping to get a little better MPG and of course MORE power! Another thing many people dont talk about it the troble shooting code you can use if you light comes on later down the road. The device they use like at autozone cost probably close to what the edge cost plus you get MUCH more. Someone correct me if Im wrong on the the edge reading codes when your troble light comes on.

Anyways
Thanks!

If your gears and tires are stock, then the edge will know. If you go to bigger tires, you will have to manually change the parameters. Level two is what I run all the time. The only custom things I changed is I put the WOT fuel to 1.60, and firmed the shifts to I think 2 or 3 on each shift. I also changed my WOT shift points to lower RPM's. Level 2 is best all around as it increases low end torque and that feels great. Level 3 is for drag racing and that is about it. I can't see drag racing a 6,000 lb truck. Kind of like saddling a pig.

Your edge will read your dtcs (diagnostic trouble codes) if the malfunction indicator light (also called check engine light) comes on. If your mil comes on your edge can either tell you just the code or it will tell you the code and the problem. You do have to go to your menu and select the read dtc option for it to read the codes for you. When I bought my edge it came programmed for 3.55 gears and my truck has stock 3.73's so you should figure out what your truck has for gears and program accordingly. Hope that helps. Enjoy your edge I know I do.

First nd041189 no you want have to change your gears unless you get really BIG tires. Oh and when you buy bigger tires you will need to prgram the edge for the tires. It has a chart in the edge manual to use.

Im running 325/60/18 Nitto with stock gear and not sure how big your tires have to be to change out the gears in the rear end.

Thanks for the reply guys. I just installed my edge yesterday and love the gauges! Right now Im running it at "1". After I programed it it asked for cutom setting and said no. However I forgot to add the bigger tire size and couldnt find a way to get back to the cutom menu. Do I need to reprogram the number 1,2 or 3 again and set it then when it will re ask if I want to use the custom setting or am I just over looking it?

At lvl 1 it does seem to shift a little firmer but nothing really noticable. I may try 2 and see what happens.

Ive only had the Evo for a couple weeks now but I dont even think it pays to use level 1. I would stick with 2 and 3. Use 3 when your road tripping and cruising at higher speeds w/out pulling anything as it has more top end gains. And use 2 for towing and mixed highway and town driving(atleast thats what it seems most people are doing.)Heres something I learned MEASURE YOUR TIRES YOURSELF! I went by what it says in the manaul for my tires and the speedo was way off. It will explain how to do this in page 17 of the manaul. Now my speedo is dead on! And to answer your question just go back in and do whatever level you want than customize and put in your tire and gear information...than go to done and than it will load your settings.
