Is it possible to programme my own chip in my 94 f150?

Is it possible to programme my own chip in my 94 f150?

A friend of mine has a 1991 chevy and he has a laptop hooked up to his comp in his truck to get a data log on the way his motor is performing. He then adjust's his fuel tables to the perfect number and he plays with a bunch of other stuff like timing and spark. Is it possible to do this with my truck? It's a 1994 F150 5.0 with a E4OD Transmision, that I would love to be able to set my shift points. Since I have put 33X12.5 on it and find that if I change the gears letting the motor rev up a little more then it would in drive, it works much better.

Hi Hamish,

You aren't going to be able to datalog on the fly like that due to the design of your PCM - to properly datalog an EEC-IV, you really need a SNeec unit, and then the tuning software to be able to make tuning changes, and a chip to load those tuning changes into - that is what it takes to do that for your vehicle.

Keep in mind that just having software does NOT make anyone a tuner, or give them tuning "knowledge or experience" - there is no substitute for that. There is going to be a very steep learning curve, which is why the few Ford tuners that are really worth their salt in America have been doing it for many, many years.

That being said, if this is a road you want to go down, then give us a call and we can go over all of those details with you, OK?

Last - you cannot recalibrate the speedometer via PCM tuning in the pre-1999 F-150's - that must be done either by changing the speedometer gear, or in the early 90's trucks like yours, a number of them can have the speedo cluster reprogrammed to recalibrate it - that needs to be done first before attempting to dial in shift points, it's critical for the PCM to know how fast the vehicle is actually going in each gear to get the shifts to work properly and respond correctly to command changes, OK?
