xcal II what tunes are available
xcal II what tunes are available
I am new here and have been doing alot or reading and searching. You guys have some great info here. I have just placed an order for the AIR FORCE 1 with Troyer and they are great to deal with. Very proffesional.
Anyway, I am getting ready to order the xcalII and am trying to get an idea of tunes.
--------Someone correct me if I am wrong but it seems that there are TWO basic choices. TOW and PERFORMANCE.---------I intend to run high octane (93) permanently in my truck. So I have no need for 87. I will only tow occasionaly. So the my first two choices are 93 perf and 93 tow. But I don't have any ideas for the third. ANY SUGGESTIONS? And my last concern is if I go out of town and only 91 or 92 is available should I worry about the running on a 93 TUNE?

Basically you have answered your own question here.
Not knowing what the future holds, or where you must travel in it, I would recommend that you get one tune for 87 octane. If it were me I would opt for the 87 towing tune. That way if you find yourself in another part of the country, and would happen to be towing something and 91 octane or higher were not available, you could switch over to the 87 tow tune and cover all aspects of the situation.
On a side note, it is a good idea to carry your XCal2 with you at all times just incase a scenerio as I mentiond should arise..

call troyer performance and talk to them about what you want from your truck, custom tunes are just that custom tunes for you and your vehicle for your specific wants and needs.
*Just be prepared to wait 4-6 weeks but the wait is worth it or so I am told (I am awaiting my custom tunes from troyer, since I made some changes to my green truck injectors, etc and needed a custom tune)

Concur with the above two posts.
Also I might add that you can specify an Economy tune, a Race a Drag tune, etc if you want. Any octane.
Don't forget - you can use the stock tune in a pinch for towing, if you want to keep your tunes open for other octanes/usage.
And, you can always buy additonal tunes - as many as you wish - to store on your pc & transfer as required to the Xcal2.
BTW - I got a 'bad gas' tune for situations where questionable fuel quality is suspected while travelling. ( On 'E' and the only station in sight is Bubba's Gas & Grits lol!)
If you've got mods that require tunes to run properly (injectors / big intake, etc), then of course you can't run the stock tune for any reason... just fyi.
Good luck!
