XCAL 2 Question
XCAL 2 Question
Yes, I did search but unable to find exactly what I am looking for.
I will be towing off and on for the next couple of months so I changed from 93 performance tune to 87 tow tune. Now I have 87 octane in the tank and am running the tow tune. What is the main difference between 87 tow and performance and I assume that running the tow tune for a daily driver would not be a problem. As I recall some owners actually preferred the tow tune to the perfromance tune even when not towing.
Thanks
Kenny

OK - tow tunes are a little richer to keep EGT's in check up to rated towing capacity. Also, shifting is a little different to protect the drivetrain. Pretty much it - I'm sure MT goes in far more depth but those are the high points...
Given the octane difference you will be down on power some - and torque is really what you need in a towing scenario. So when time permits consider a 93 octane tow tune to keep on your pc for stuff like this. Just my opinion.
Some guys swear the tow tunes offer more low-end torque - while sacrificing top end. Unlike the Edge, this is not the case in a custom tuned Xcal2, thank goodness
. There's still power everywhere, just not quite as much.Cheers

Just ordered my XCAL with Troyer custom tunes. I went with 87 tow, 94 tow and 87 performance.
I figure I will use 87 99% of the time ( tow boat to local lake) and have the 94 tow for the longer road trips.
Cant wait..

MGDfan,
Thanks for the reply - Yes, I can feel the difference on the low end of the RPM scale. Between 0 and 50 it runs smooth as silk (I guess to make it smooth when towing). I have not taken it for a "run" since I changed the tune from 93 perfromance but it seems the power will hold even at higher rpm's. I just turned 30k so time for the tranny service and flush so I guess it would be best to go back to stock tune for the trip to the shop. I sure am glad the XCAL 2 is so user friendly - of course having Mike T only 10 miles away is a plus.
Thanks
Kenny
