Edge Programmer, yah or nay?????

I am new to this forum and have read quite a few good and bad threads on the Edge but none have touched on what it realy does as far as the performance gains (unless I didn't get to that thread).
I have a 2005 F-150 Supercrew FX4 5.4L 3 valve with 2.5" leveling kit, 33.5" BFG's, Airaid CAI, Flowmaster 2 chamber with 3" pipe from the "Y" IN and two 2.5" pipes OUT the back right side and currently run the Hypertech III but this programmer only works at wide open throttle (with exception to the Transmission Shift Firmness). Does the Edge increase performance through the WHOLE Power Band (throttle response, HP, & TQ) Unfortunately I obviously did not make my purchase before the RIDICULOUS price hike (which is no no less than $450.00) so just want to know yah or nay????
Also where can I find a Dyno Chart for the 2005 and the Edge?
Thanks in advance.

Obviously, I can't speak for anyone else, but for me? I noticed a huge difference when I installed my Edge. I am more than happy with my purchase. I have a similar setup to yours and instantly noticed a big difference. Now that Edge's prices have gone up, a lot of people here will tell you to go the X-Cal route but I love being able to monitor several components of my truck real time. I'm just glad I got my Edge right before the price hike.

Unless you can get a used one now I would say now. I bought one and ran it for 2 weeks. Definately a noticable difference. The power was great mostly due to the different shift points. When a bunch of us bought them we bought them for $318, now you're lucky if you can get it for 449. At that point, I'd say go for an XcalII. If I ever get another tuner it will be an Xcall from Troyer.

I was hoping for better gas mileage and don't see a difference other than power. To me, my truck is plenty powerful in stock form (for my needs). As well , I tried to update my edge and it went haywire. They sent me a new unit and I decided to not even install it. I sold it on ebay for a profit from what I paid. My reserve was what I paid and people kept bidding on it. I can't stop that.

I've actually enjoyed driving my truck in stock form lately. I like the seamless feel of the shifts versus hard shifting of the Edge. While it was fun with the Edge it also got old.

The Edge is everything I wanted. Level 2 provides a lot more low end torque for daily driving, level 3 gives more in high rpms and for highway driving. I enjoy haveing the gauges. It was dynoed by one guy and it added about 25 hp to his setup. It is everything I wanted and I have used it almost a year. However, If all out performance is your quest, then go with a Troyer tuned Xcal2.

What are you looking for in performance ? You can't have a 5500 lb race car.
With level 2 settings, corrected axle ratio & tire settings and a Volant CAI I get 18 mpg highway & 17 mpg combined driving.
The throttle response is better(than stock),shift points are firmer(no more 4-2 downshift delays).
If you Really want custom tuning purchase Mike Troyer's products & custom tunes.

I think we should all boycott Edge for awhile to see if they will drop the price back down. $450 isn't outrageous considering an intake will run you 150 to 300 and maybe not deliver any increase in performance. However, for a little extra you can get a better tune from M.T. and custom tunes. I just think it is bad business to raise the price $100 or more so I'm not buying one unless I get a used one cheap.

I agree. I think it was a stupid marketing mistake that will backfire.

Thanks all for the info, this really makes me think about buying an edge. Does anybody know if you get better results with the Xcall from Troyer or is it a better price and less problems? Also can it be updated if I add anything to the truck after the Custom tunes are done? Thanks again for the info and advice, MUCH appreciated.

Hi.

You will get better perfomance from a TP-custom-tuned Xcal2.

Price - Xcal2 is less since Edge upped the MAP. Remember your F150Online discount too ...

Updates - the only way to properly accomodate certain future mods ( that require altered fueling) is with a custom tuner - it can be retuned as many times as necessary. You can also keep extra tunes on your pc - as many as you wish & your budget allows... some folks have quite a selection .

As for problems.. well, a litle reading on here will answer that one for ya LOL!

Cheers

I’ve been using the Xcal with TP’s custom tunes since my truck was new and have never had a single problem. Mike’s tuning is ultra reliable

Thumbs up It's a money saver

I got mine before the price hike and I think it is the best money that I have put into my truck. Before the Edge my truck would average 225 - 275 miles on a 26 gal tank. Now I am getting 325+ this last week I got 379 miles on a tank, so ((to me)) it is a money saver. Others will probably disagree but I know what I am seeing is true.
As for power once again ((to me )) it turned my truck inside out. Before the Edge my truck felt like it had a V6 with 4.10 gears now it feels like it should, a 5.4L V8 w/ 3.73 gears.
I also don't have any exhaust or CAI, but I can't wait to see what it does when I do get them.
