SuperChips vs thermometer
SuperChips vs thermometer
I'm running the SuperChips 1745, have been for 75,000 miles, very happy. Running in the tow mode. Moved it up to the HP mode, gas mileage dropped, so I switched back. Now my thermometer for the ambient temp is wacked out - it's reading anywhere from right to 50 degrees high. Just curious if anyone else has witnessed this or if it actually related to the tuner.
Will try reloading the program to see if it solves the issue.

HI Bryndon,
This is actually an interesting area, as there is a factory reflash for this.
The outside temperature display's calibration *is* inside the PCM - however, neither our custom tuning here at Troyer Performance, nor the tuning in that Superchip 1745 unit makes any changes to that - heck, we wouldn't' even know what address it's at! So that is not something that is changed in the program, that is not part of any performance tuning.
SO either it's simply a coincidence, and it's got perhaps a sensor issue, or there is a very slim chance that you just got a bit of file corruption during the file transfer process when flashing the PCM. Now i have seen that type of thing happen, but it's *so* rare - we tune thousands of these trucks every year, and I have seen that happen in the 2004 & newer F-150 not once to date. Now we did just recently have a very nice 2001 Expedition in here that we did our supercharger install on, and it had big problems with how another shop installed the longtube headers & re-did the rear O2 sensors, requiring us to spend many hours of dyno time on it getting it to run properly once we finished the blower install.
Point being, now on that truck, we did have one time where we flash the PCM and it immediately reported a list of 9 codes - and it was just a bad flash, a bit of file corruption, and that is easily fixed by simply reflashing the PCM once again with the same tune.
So the things to remember are this: 1.) Nobody changes how that temperature display reads in aftermarket tuning. 2/) there *is* a Ford factory reflash available for 2004 & 2005 trucks that have that problem from the factory - our 204 had that issue. 3.) However, in your case this apparently just happened, rather than being off from the factory - so either you have a sensor that went bad, or you simply need to reflash the PCM due to a bit of file corruption during that last flash - now again, that is extremely rare, but we have seen it happen in a few 1997-2003's, and it can be within the possibility of happening on any vehicle with a computer-controlled powertrain.
So I would say first, simply reflash the PCM, and then if it still has the problem, it's time for a visit to your dealership.
Good luck!

Thanks Mike, forgot to say that before. I've reflashed serveral times and the thermo is still way off... probably a sensor because it occasionally just pops back to normal. Maybe I'll go see the dealer. Maybe I'll just let it ride.
Thanks again, really appreciate the input and info, you are always very helpful!

When you say you discon'd the thermometer... do you mean you just unplugged it from behind the grille and then replugged?
