Question Edge question for you guys...

I have searched the forum but didn't find an answer so this will be my first thread. I'm getting a Edge Evolution in a couple of days and I want to run it on Level 3 but it requires 93 octane gas. Well my question is, can I fill my tank with 87 octane and dump in a bottle or two of octane booster to make up for the difference in octane? Thanks in advance!

Hi.

No - not a chance. They actually raise octane very little, while contaminating your O2's with use.

Best bet - drive until your low fuel light comes on, then fill with the good stuff, & then load L3.

A bottle of octane boost and a full tank of 87 will cost more than just filling up with 93. I would think you could do it but why not just pony up the extra 30 cents and get 93. or fill up with 89 and adjust the octane level on the edge?

What he is saying is you can run level3 with 87 or 89, but you have to go into custom settings and take out timing. At that point you are probably better off just setting it to level 2 and running 87 or 89, which is more or less what level3 is without the timing. I guess it depends on where you will be driving, lvl2 is better around town with more low end snap, and lvl3 gives you better mid and top end for passing at highway speed.

One difference between L2 & L3 has to do with EGT management. In a towing tune (as L2 is), the A/F's are set slightly richer to keep EGT's in a safe range when towing up to rated capacity. There is, as a result, less power in a towing tune, all other things being equal. There also are - or should be - changes in torque managment & shifting parameters in a 'tow' tune worthy of the name ...

Cannot speak for how Edge sets this up, but in a custom 'tow' vs 'perf' tune, the perf tune will always produce more torque & power in all conditions & throttle positions - as long as perf is not utilized to tow.

Ok, you have a point there. As sad as it may sound, I never actually sat down and added it up before...

It sounds like I need level 2 1/2.. I do equal amounts of highway and around town driving, and not much towing at all.
