Can I back up my stock program while using Xcal2?

Been wondering what i would do if my xcal went bad, got broke whatever, with my 'only' copy of my stock setup residing on the xcal?

Can my stock be backed up using the software?

Hi Waterman;

Provisionally, yes.

If you install Livelink, there is an XC2dump.exe utility in the Livelink program folder, you can run to back up the stock calibration to your pc.

What you'd do with it to restore, you'll have to ask the SCT folks...

Here's what MikeR@SCT said (he got the actual filename wrong though):

And Ryan@SCT:

Hope this helps ...

Cheers

Hi Waterman,

Also, remember that we can ALWAYS send you out a copy of your factory stock tune if need be - as long as we did the tuning, we can always get you a copy of your factory stock tune, no problem!

Hey Mike,

Yes, you did my tunes. So, if my Xcal died or got broken or something, (and I got a new one or whatever), you could send me my stock program as a tune? How would I get it back into Xcal?

On the dump program, once I dumped the stock tune to a pc file or files, then how would I get that back into xcal?

Are the dump files and my stock tune from TP the same file?

Thanks. Just don't want to be without a backup copy of my truck's brain.

Waterman;

In that second link I gave you it says this:

" ...it will pull a copy of the file off, and save it as a IDX and a DAT file. Note, you cant put this file on other Xcalibrators, but it can be used by us incase there are any issues with your device, or to add support for vehicles we don't have stock reads from. "

The files in your X2 are likely *.ll3's. So no, not the same.

Ah, 10-4. As long as SOMEBODY can reproduce the stock (just in case).

I've lost harddrives with gigs of family pics (not backed up uh-oh) and don't want a repeat of that with my truck! I would not survive the beating that would no doubt come my way

Hi Waterman,

There are a number of ways to do it, but there is always a way to handle a scenario in which a tuner fails completely while you still have our tuning installed on the truck - so that you can get your factory stock tune back, and have the replacement tuner download it again properly when you install the new replacement tuner. It gets into too much detail to describe the exact steps here, but trust me, this can be done, it's what I consider a pretty basic requirement!

We have people who crash hard drives, for example, it happens. We also have people who have purchased extra tunes, some have as many as 10 or more different tunes they save on their hard drive and swap around on their XCal 2 as needed for whatever they want to do.

This is not a difficult process, it just takes a number of steps done in a certain order, so the bottom line is, we can always restore a truck where the tuner goes bad in a worst-case scenario like you are taking about - and that happens about every 12th of never by the way - but it *is* comforting to know that, should worst ever come to worst, that this can be done!
