Edge "return to stock" ???

I am gonna request that my pcm be flashed for the throttle lag problem many have experienced.
I have the edge on level 2 now and I know I need to return to stock before taking it in. My question is - is this all I have to do? Once they flash it, and I put the edge back in, will it save this update as the stock tune?
Thanks

Hi.

You got it in one.

The only risk may involve a PCM calibration so new that the Edge may not recognize it - but I've seen a lot of folks here that have had no issues doing what you plan.

If unsure, before reflashing, read the new strategy & call it in to Edge to confirm.

Good luck.

Cheers
Bubba

I'm planning on buying a Edge tuner. Question? How easy is it to return to stock if I ever have to take it to the dealer?

I have a generic question about tuning that sort of applies here.

Lets use the Edge as an example. It has 3 “canned" tunes. When you program your PCM with, for example, #2 tune, does it :

1: COMPLETELY re-write the PCM,

or does it

2: Only alter certain parameters, with the end result of some parameters got changed, and some are still the factory-flashed settings, and the resulting combination of these being the # 2 tune?

The reason I ask is, if it is scenario # 1, what would be the reason to have your PCM re-flashed with a factory update, other than to have a “saved copy” of the latest factory programming, if you plan on re-flashing the canned #2 tune form the Edge.

And while I guess having a copy of the “latest” updated factory programming is reason enough to take it in and have the dealer re-flash your PCM, I would still like to know the answer to my question.

I cant answer all your questions, but one reason to do it, would be so that when you did return to stock, it would be more driveable.

When you select save the pcm image, the Edge copies the image to a portion of memory. When you select a level 1,2,or3 tune the pcm flash image is OVERWRITTEN by the selected level of tuning. If you select any other parameters to modify, those are also overwritten.
Thus, you must ensure a "stock" image is saved. If you do not & the dealer reflashes your pcm,you will need Edge tech support to recover the Edge Evo,or return to Edge for s/w or f/w repair.
Be sure you are comfortable with the idea of flash programming your pcm & how to maintain "stock" integrity.

Thanks for that explanation. I had guessed that it did that, as you can watch it go through the 4 'blocks' as it writes. But I was also thinking the PCM could possibly just take modified parameters an integrate that to the program. You clear up a vital understanding for me!
