Annoying Drone while towing with Tuner

I have an '05 150 with Troyer 87 Octane tune for towing. I removed the Flowmaster exhaust, because I thought it was the cause of an annoying drone sound heard in the Cab. It's still there and apparently caused by the Air Force one intake. I just returned from a trip to Las Cruces, NM towing a 6000lb trailer and my wife and I about went crazy with the drone. I had an 11 hr drive and noticed it was worse at about 2200 RPM. It would literately "Howl" in the cab. I loved the way it towed, dropped down a gear at a touch of the throttle, and kept up with my Brother's diesel! Any one else having this issue and is there a solution??

Its has nothing to do with the tune or tuner I think you have two options take off the AF1 witch IMO is not a loud intake or get over a little noise. I have headers and full exhaust and I have no issues in the cab with noise

Thanks for your comments Matt. I have considered taking off the AF1 and having Troyer redo the tunes. I guess what you call a "little noise" is too much for me. I do have 30 years on you!

That noise is the main reason I sold my AF1. Could not talk in the cab while towing my travel trailer it was so loud. I went back to the stock intake. I would suggest trying a replacement tube type intake like the Airaid Junior or something similar.

Having owed dozens of these vehicles with AF1 intake on them, I have yet to ever hear an AF1 cause any "drone" sound inside the ****pit - not once.

Now what the AF1 WILL do, like any good low-restriction intake kit, is you will hear the sound of air flowing thru it, but *only* when you have a heavy load on the engine - that does not happen under any normal kind of cruising condition, it happens only under a very heavy load - some people call it the sound of opening up the secondaries on a 4-bbl. carb - but I have never heard any drone whatsoever in any cruising conditions, including with towing - the only time any AF1 intake kit has ever caused any noise in my experience is at full-throttle, meaning under a very heavy load, and that noise is not even remotely a "drone" - it's simply the sound of increased airflow coming thru a low restriction intake at full-throttle, just as it should do.

Now the bottom line is, the only thing that REALLY matters is whatever makes each individual vehicle owner happy, and I'd be the first to agree!!! And if anyone thinks the AF1 is objectionable (which, in the history of our company has been a grand total of like 3, out of thousands), then I would advise them to NEVER do ANY type of intake or exhaust mods on ANY vehicle, just so they do not have any such issue.

I'm not in my 20's, I'm in my 50's and the one thing I cannot STAND is any "droning" inside the ****pit of a vehicle - I own a 13 second supercharged 5.4 3V F-150, an 11-second Lightning, and a 10 second Cobra, most of which use the AF1, and all but one of which also have longtube headers & high-flow cats, as well as a healthy true dual exhaust - and not once has any of them ever given any "droning" inside the ****pit under any conditions. This is just general FYI feedback, not meant to argue with how anyone else feels.

However, to each their own - again, the only thing that matters is whatever makes each vehicle owner happy - absolutely!

Your not I to had to sell mine after towing the trailerr to the beach, when a four year old complains of the noise you know its to much, Troyer says its not drone but call it want you want it is the sound of the air coming through the AF1 tube that is loudeer then stock and while towing your under heavy throttle most of the time thus the sound is amplified and heard most of the trip more so in the mountains where your deep in the throtle all the time.

while its true around town is fine and it sounds sporty but for long trips towing it can be a real headach, and to be honest I really felt no differnce in power while towing with and without the AF1 and troyer tunes.

I purchased the Troyer XCal tunes and 3.25" Air Force One and it definitely has an annoying drone under load and at certain RPM's. I towed 5000lbs this weekend and it would get old if I was going across country. It is not a sucking of air or a nice intake sound, it is a drone. Having owned several vehicles with intakes and been in dozens, I have never heard of such a loud intake. Mine makes a drone at about every shift of the transmission, which I have just put up with as it is just for a short second. If I towed, on a regular basis, I would never consider this intake. This is not the first thread I have seen on drone with this intake, so there is something to it.
