Hello Off Road Dude,

That Jet chip will do very little for that truck - much better tuning is available.

Most F-150 owners here go with our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as we are well known for getting the best results, thanks to the fact that we have specialized in tuning these F-150's for over 15 years - far longer than anyone else. In fact, major chipmakers routinely call us asking us for help in their applications for these vehicles due to our expertise - just as we get called in by manufacturers of many other types of performance parts for these vehicles, as we are known as the "go to" guys for Ford F-series performance.

What gets the best result in a thorough in depth custom tune like we deliver, and I also suggest that instead of using a chip, use our hand held tuner, the XCalibrator 2, as that is far easier to install, allows you to read & clear codes, we load it with your choice of 3 different custom tunes that deliver far better power gains than any other device as well as better overall driveability, throttle response & part-throttle torque. That way you have far more features, a much easier install, and you also have a product that can be used on your next Ford vehicle when you are thru with that truck by simply having us make the tunes for the new vehicle an send them to you via email.

I would suggest giving us a call at our number listed below so you can get all the details, know what is available, what will work best for your needs, desires and your budget, and then have us put you in the right product that works best for you, using our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as that is what will get you the best results.

F-series performance is our specialty, and we've been doing it & custom tuning these vehicles far longer than anyone else, which is why we get the best results. Reading the boards here will quickly show you that the people getting the best performance, as well as the best overall driveability and power at any throttle position are those using our tuning, and they rave about it.

I hope this brief info helps a bit, & best of luck whatever you decide - we hope to hear from you & have fun with your truck!

After doing a lot of research (mostly on this site) I decided to go with the Edge mainly because I liked the idea of the gauges and the ability to adjust. I have had the Edge on my 1997 5.4 4x4 (231789 miles without any major repairs) for over 10,000 miles and am extremely satisfied, it made a huge difference in the way the truck handles in fact I have never made any other single modification that made a more noticeable difference. The gages and built in reader have saved me lots of hassle on numerous occasions and there customer service is phenomenal.

For Example: Today 03-10-07 I was on my way back from Missoula Mt. and when I got to Cheyenne WY. I decided to tweak my level 3 program and increase my Timing to adjust for altitude again, and did a very stupid thing, I started the truck while it was still updating, well to make a long story short I locked up the Programmer and destroyed my pcm files so of Corse my truck wouldn't start, I tried everything I knew of to reset the truck and the programmer to no avail. I called the local Ford dealer and after listening to the lecture on how bad any type of tuner or chip mod was and that more than likely I had fried the computer they told me that it would cost me at least $100 and more likely closer to a $1000 to either reflash or replace the PCM/CPU. I didn't like either option. Maybe because the whole conversation with the Ford guys had heated my blood I finally woke up and started thinking and called Edge technical support and talked to Nate Halliday who asked me if I had any way to connect to the internet Fortunately I had my Laptop with me and was able to connect to the internet via the truck stops wifi, so Nate had me connect the Edge to my laptop and unlocked it sent me the basic Ford files walked me through the reflashing procedures and got me back on the road.

I had forgotten how much difference the Edge made since I almost always leave it on level 3 until I drove it up to Denver on the stock settings. Once in Denver I reprogrammed it to Level 3 again and had my 8000 pound Sports car back and rediscovered my love of this truck and Edge

Sorry typo, should have been 10,000, I got the edge in Sep - 06, because I was doing a lot traveling while hauling a 20' trailer with a lift between KA, UT, NB, CO, WY, and MT; and the truck didn't like some of those "small" hills that we have around here. After putting the Edge on I was actually able to use my cruise even while towing the trailer and climbing most of the passes, something I defiantly couldn't do before. I am not saying that the Edge is better than any other tuner or anything (I haven't tried any other tuner) just being appreciative of a good product and giving credit where it's due. I have personally found it rare to find a product that exceeds my performance expectation or a company was willing to stand behind there product even when it was operator ineptitude that caused the problem, Nate didn't even ask me for warranty information or anything else he just spent an hour of his time helping me fix the problem, he was even willing to over night me a hand held programmer at no charge (other than shipping) if necessary to use to get my truck back on the road and I didn’t even have to speak a foreign language to get him to understand me.

American company hiring Americans a novel concept?

Thumbs up Edge Evolution

The Edge may not extract every ounce of power from your machine (After read MANY posts, I think that is what Troyer is great at.), but it's a great "all around" product.
Basically, you get:
1.) A tuner that that gives you a few tunes, AND you can customize them as well.
2.) Up to 4 guages, (and has a nice pod so you can 'install' it)(and you can select from ALOT of information to display on them AND you can make the backlight ANY color)
3.) Pull DTC codes from PCM
4.) Can give you 0-60 and 1/4 mile times

My Experience with it so far has been great... it gives alot for the money.

The Edge can definitely be custom tuned, Edge use to do it they just decided not to (maybe because they couldn’t find someone with Troyer’s knowledge. I am sure Troyer could create the tune if he wanted to (if it wasn't a competitor’s product) and had access to Edge’s code. Although I am not sure about the legality or morality a person with access to a Troyer tune and some knowledge of programming could probably change the “base” files in the Edge to match the same values themselves. That would require getting Edge to unlock the tuner or figuring out how to update the files without Edge’s participate ion and I would hazard to guess that neither Troyer or Edge would be willing to cooperate like that, but if enough people express a desire for custom tuning Edge might just decide to start custom tuning again.
