With Xcal2 will truck fill like new/diff truck?

Guys I'm trying to figure out if I will be happier with my 06 F150 after doing an Xcal2 tune or the complete stage 1 kit. I love the looks of the truck and all but hate the sluggish tranny and lack of power.

And after going with a friend the other day to test drive the new 07 tundra 5.7L 6 spd auto tranny I'm really disappointed. Just not real crazy about the new Tundra always been a Ford guy and would like to remain one.

To bad Ford didn't put a 5 or 6 speed auto tranny with this truck.

Thanks
HB

Yes, with Xcal2 and Troyer tunes it's like driving a new truck.

I sure am hoping for a night and day difference with this truck. I have to say I really didn't notice a difference with the tunes in my old 2002 with the 4.6L but who knows. Hopefully Monday Mike can update the tunes for this truck with the new serial number for the tuner SCT sent back to me. I have had my new custom tunes for nearly 3 weeks but have been unable to load them so far... complicated story...

Also I have the AF1 3.25 in the garage that will get installed.

Hi HillBilly,

Well, that's a simple answer if I understand you correctly - of course the truck is going to feel better with our Stage 1 kit over how it's going to feel with the tuning alone. If that were not true, then the additional components in our Stage 1 kit would be worthless - so that's pretty easy to answer.

Our custom tuning will make a nice difference, there's no question about that - if that is what you were wondering, in other words, does the tuning alone help the truck - yes, it certainly does.

If you want to get the most out of our tuning, then we do recommend the Stage 1, as that way you have the Top 3 best bang for the buck mods, which are our tuning, the intake, and then the exhaust - so you have the tuning, and then both the intake and exhaust are also optimized so the truck can really breathe, and thus take the best advantage of our tuning - though the tuning alone is still well worth it.

When you see the difference that the intake & exhaust (the other components of our Stage 1 kit) make over the tuning alone, and what it does to the shape of the power curve, then you see why they are so well received, and why most people end up at at least that level of modification.

However, you can always start off with just the tuning, and then add the intake & exhaust later on if you want - this is up to you.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail to get a better feel of just what each is going to do, just give us a quick call & we'll be happy to help you on this, OK?

Thanks for your post, & talk to you soon!

Thanks guys for the replies.

Also thanks Mike I'm sure you'll be hearing from me in the future I'm planning out my mods right now and just not sure what order I'm going to do them in.

Thanks

Well,

I just finished loading my 93 perf tunes and the AF1 intake. WOW, I seriously didn't think I would notice this much of a difference but from the quick little spin down the street it was obvious. The sound of the AF1 at WOT will take some getting use to, but the truck really woke up unlike my experience with me 2002 4.6 on the tunes. The only thing I need to look into is my intake. I ordered and verified with Crystal that I received the 3.25 and was tuned for that, but upon measuring the tube it appears to be 3.5 I just want to make sure my tunes are okay if I was mistakenly given the 3.5 tube. I really need to find a dyno I suppose...

I couldn't believe my truck was supposed to have 300hp. Prior to the Troyer tunes and XCAL, it was a dog. I'm running the 87 perf. and the truck is completely different. Without hesitation, I'd say spend the bucks and enjoy.

Brian,

Your tunes are in fact correct. I did them, and there is nothing whatsoever wrong with them - just like there was nothing wrong with your tunes for that 2002 4.6 truck.

Additionally, the outside diameter of ALL the AF1 intakes for the 2004 & up 5.4 3V has **always** been 3.5" - the difference is in the INSIDE diameter, not the outside diameter. And the ONLY way to get an accurate measurement of that is to use an inside micrometer.

The bottom line is, you have the correct baseline tuning for the intake you have.

Yea, I kinda figured that on the measurements after I saw a picture of sombody measuring a 3.5 tube and it appeared the same as my 3.25. Thank you for the post. I should be getting my Magnaflow 16612 SI/SO installed Friday, and am looking forward to that.
