LiveWire shipping, kinda-sorta :)
LiveWire shipping, kinda-sorta :)
Hi everyone,
OK, the LiveWire device is finally supposed to be shipping - we were actually supposed to get our first shipment here today via overnight delivery, but apparently FedEx (according to SCT) screwed it up and we will be getting them in tomorrow. However, we cannot seem to get a tracking number for that shipment - hmmm..............
It didn't help that SCT apparently decided to change from UPS to FedEx just yesterday, right in the middle of a new product release - D-oh!
What that means is, because they did not arrive today, we won't have time to play with them & put them thru their paces & learn all about how they really work BEFORE our Dyno Day which starts tomorrow, which is how we had it scheduled, so that we WOULD have that time - drat!!
Anyway, now we are supposed to be seeing the first LiveWires first thing tomorrow morning - SCT still needs to get the drivers posted up on their web site for the end users, and a version of the LiveLink datalogging software that works with the LiveWire. In other words, all the same things we went thru when the XCalibrator 2 first came out, we'll be going thru again, apparently. All of this was supposed to be sorted out before they shipped, but apparently hasn't - I'm betting that as usual, we'll be the ones to find any problems and get them corrected with SCT - we have always had that kind of relationship with them as their first & oldest dealer, we tend to find the issues first.
Right now we are currently waiting on a prototype version of LiveLink so we can test it, and we did this afternoon get the drivers needed for LiveWire to communicate with a PC so we can load tunes into them & get them up & running - so the only thing kinda-sorta up in the air right now is being able to use a new version of LiveLink to datalog with them using a laptop (you can datalog with them right on the device, but we prefer to see the laptop datalogs, they are more thorough and faster for us when doing things like Dyno Days. We were told today that this should be happening pretty quickly, so I was hoping to see a test version this afternoon, but that has not happened yet.
So - let's cross our fingers and hope that the first shipment of LiveWires actually arrives here tomorrow via overnight - we'll keep everyone posted!!

Yea, SCT called me today to get my payment info before sending my my xcal2 back. She was about to give me a FedEx tracking number but I had her switch it to UPS since I have never had luck with FedEx. UPS will put stuff at my door or garage unlike FedEx which will knock once and then run off. Very hard to get a delivery from them from my experience unless I am sitting at my door waiting on it...

Thats Great news Mike,
I'm looking forward to getting a LiveWire if there is a trade up deal from XCal2 and after you work any bugs out with SCT... I know you will put though the ringer a few times testing it out before releasing to your customers....
Also, if you need a Ginnie Pig for testing (on a weekend) I'm only 2 1/2 hrs away...

my plans for your tunes have been delayed, but I still gonna get 'em, so can you tell me if the livewire can display trans temp/ oil temp and everything like the edge does?

I'd be interested in this too if it has the guages and everything like the Edge does. I've been thinking about asking Troyer if they could reprogram my Xcal2 for my current F150 since I think his tunes were better than what I have with the Edge. I still like having the guages for the tranny temp, oil temp etc, but if they were available on this new one...I might upgrade. Anyone know if this mounts into a pod like the Edge?? I didn't use the pod, mounted mine in the drop down tray that holds the ashtray.
Hi Guys;
With respect to LiveWire's display capabilites, refer to Justin's great review over on SCT forums ( a link to that is in the 'other' LiveWire thread here too).
That review suggests that any PID accessable via LiveLink can be imported to display on the LiveWire device. And SCT's software exposes many, many more PIDs than the Edge does - an order of magnitude more.
Even with all the on-board memory in LiveWire, the database is ~50mb and hence won't fit. So, you use LiveLink to select all the PID's you want (that will fit), download them to the device from your pc and then you can cycle through them on the display. This can be modified at any time as per your needs.
Here's a link that shows this in action:

Long answer to your trans/oil temp question - if the PID exists you can display it. If it doesn't, you can't.
This is indeed great functionality.
Hope this helps until THE BOSS has the time to reply - Dyno Weekend, remember?
BTW - I also asked the question over there concerning the LCD display & cold weather issues - unfortunate they did not choose OLED technology for the display & avoided the whole thing... oh well, probably a $$$ decision.
On the pod - presumably there will be one offered as an extra cost option - or perhaps the aftermarket will step in... I've got another custom location/mounting method in mind (a secret ,LOL) - stay tuned.
Cheers

The last shipment I had with FedEx was interesting to be sure. I had the tracking number and it looked like my shipment was stalled somewhere. Only after it arrived at my house was there web site updated.
I have not had that problem with UPS.
