Use the search tool, there's a whole bunch a threads with people and their custom settings, and reasons why they use them.

Hi.

IMHO, the only proven safe settings are the default ones from Edge.

You tinker - your incur risk.

I have not seen anyone here empirically asess (a.k.a. measure, datalog, etc) the impact of customizations that deviate from the default ones.

The only guy who's tried, as I've mentioned before, is Bluegrass. Please correct me if I'm wrong - I'd be the first to applaud someone who's instrumented an Edge'd truck to tweak it safely.

Oh - seat-of-the-pants, 'but there ain't no CEL, Clem', 'but I don't hear no knock, Bufurd' etc, do not count. Thinking it's safe is a world apart from knowing it's safe.

For Expy03 - J/K !!!

Cheers (Nature's beer fridge - my back deck! Except now after 50cm of snow, I can no longer find my back deck, nor my beer )

Have to agree on that one.

Especially if you plan on using 87 octane. The settings on level 2 are maxed out already. During the heat of the summer, with the A/C on, I have to run 89 octane to stop a mild "rattle" at take off. I can't run the same amount of timing advance as someone that lives along the coast in a cool, wet climate. So your settings have to fit your truck, your driving style, and your needs.

And at WOT with 93 octane, be very careful. You can easily burn a valve or piston and not know it's happening.

I haven't read of anyone on this site having any long term problems with more advanced settings, but they just may not know it yet.

And you have to remember that if you live at a different altitude, have a higher humidity, or any one of many varibles; the settings from one vehicle to another may not be the correct setting.

Good luck and enjoy.

So stick with the default settings unless you have a Dyno, and like MGD said, do some dataloging so that you can get it right.

My settings for both level 2 and 3 are the same except for the timing. Don't pay any attention to the Xcal2 guys, they are just jealous. We have people running their settings for thousands of miles with no problems. I have been running mine since 7/18/06 and have about 13,000 miles on it.

WOT Shifts: 1-2 5250 2-3 5250 3-4 4800
Max RPM: 5650
Max Speed: 110
Shift pressure: +12 just depends on how firm a shift you want at WOT,some run less pressure, some more.
Normal Shift Points: No change
WOT Fuel: +1.5

I leave the timing alone when I am on level 2 with 87 octane but when I am on level 3 with 93 octane bump the timing up at least +1.0. I have run +1.5 with no pinging.

Hi.

LMAO

Remember - no audible pinging does not always mean no detonation is occurring, or that the PCM is not pulling timing.

As I stated before - without measurments, you just do not know for sure.

Easily rectified, as the unit comes with PID logging & review capabilities on a pc. But you have to use it.

Lazy bums

I have been running 87 ocane on the 93 octane tune for a long time. It doesn ping, and it doesn't hurt it. It ain't rocket science. Just have fun with your truck. If it starts knocking, back off the timing. If you're worried about breaking your truck, or can't afford to fix it, leave the settings on the edge alone.
