Hi.

Not getting any hits, so I'll take a stab.

The Xcal2 is usually preferred over the flip-chip primarily due to it's flexibility:

> Can be used on any FoMoCo in the future (chips won't work an CAN/non-ported PCM's).

> can be retuned/updated over the Web (no need to send it in)

> you can have as many tunes as you wish to buy (there is of course a fee) - as many as you want to store on your computer. Any three at a time on the device.

> End-user adjustments for several parameters

> hi-speed datalogging

> read/clear DTC's

Flipchip is faster at switching tunes, but you still need to turn off the truck. Takes a couple/few minutes with the X2.

I would defer to Mike's advice on towing - I'd stay on the conservative side with that.

Hope this helps until the Big Guns chime in

Cheers
Bubba

Hi jacov,

On the EEC-V PCM you have, you can change the tune in under 2 minutes using the XCal 2, it's very fast - and when you flash the PCM instead of chip it, it's much easier to do diagnostics, datalogging, and the PCM actually works a bit better when it's flashed.

If it were me, I'd go for the XCal 2 with our custom tuning, as it will change the tunes fast and give you so many more features that will be very useful to you over what the chip will do - and of course we can do that either way for you, it doesn't matter to us - but if I was making the choice, I would choose the XCal 2 hands down - that is what I did for my Lightning (11 second truck), my Cobra (about a 10 second car), another supercharged truck we have (a 5.4 3V), and on and on.

In fact, I only chip one of our vehicles if it cannot take a flash, such as if we happen to own a pre-1996 vehicle for a while for some reason.

So - it can be done either way, this is completely up to you - but I prefer flashing the PCM with the XCal 2. And as Vic said, the XCal 2 can also be used on the newer (and future) CAN vehicles, like the 2004 & up F-150, the 2005 & up Mustang, etc., etc.

I hope that helps,
