There is no key. Just plug your Evo into the USB adapter and click on updates through the Lightning program. It should automatically update it. At least, that's how mine works.....

Sounds like you either messed something up and need to return the Edge unit to stock or you bought it from somebody who didn't return their truck to stock before sending it to you. I think either way your best bet will be to call Edge. Otherwise you might end up screwing something up and bricking your truck.

Agreed.

Besides, bricking your truck would really mess up the 'ol paint job.

Cheers

I recently bought an Edge Evolution from a guy, but I have no idea if he "returned his truck to stock" before he sold it to me. I have not hooked it up to my truck, in fact I just finished DL'ing the Lightning software from the Edge website.

Before I head outside to do this: Is there something I need to do to my tuner before I begin the installation process? Will hooking up the tuner to my laptop before I hook it up to the truck help?

And why, after installing the software exactly how the .pdf directions instructed me to, do I read this in the 'read me' file:

Now, I believe I installed the drivers during the installation process, but there is no 'USB Drivers' or 'Install USB Drivers' option in my all programs list. I am using XP Home on this laptop if that makes any difference.

Read me files are meant to be read before you actually run any program. It's been a while since I installed my software but I'd almost be willing to be there was a read the Read Me file question before it finished installing the software.

Read me files are meant for any last minute instructions that the manufacturer or publisher couldn't include in the original documentation. It's easier and cheaper to include a read me file in the actual program than to rewrite the hard copy instruction manual.

If you try to update your Evolution prior to returning your truck to stock it will warn you that you must return your truck to stock prior to updating. If you get this message, then the previous owner didn't return his truck to stock. Then you will need to contact Edge and have them reset the Evolution (this might cost you money since I'm pretty sure the warranty isn't transferable).

Well, I did hook the Edge up to the laptop last night (I figured out my software issues) and there was no prompt, neither from the software interface nor the display on the tuner itself. While it was connected, I updated the firmware versions of both the Lightning software and the tuner itself. Now all I'm waiting on is the answer to the re-flash question before I go out and hook the system to my truck.

What you're saying is that if the tuner doesn't throw an error code at the beginning to re-set the truck, it should be good to go? The one caution screen that did come up was the general 'use at your own risk' screen on the tuner after I updated the tuner's firmware version. I did not accept that warning, as I was not ready to install the tuner yet and it read "this is one of 4 remaining warnings on this unit". I didn't want to waste one of my opportunities, so I just exited the program and shut it down.

If you didn't get the error code while updating the Evolution on your computer, they unit is set to stock and you can proceed to update your truck.

The warning messages will appear through out the life of the unit. They will appear for 4 times after each time you update your Evolution on the computer (I assume this is for liability on their part).

I'd go ahead and try to load the tunes this morning. But remember, there is a chance the Evolution can mess up your truck (like any flash tuner) and it will be undrivable until Edge can get you back up and running. What I'm saying is this, if you are uncomfortable and absolutly have to drive your truck tomorrow, wait until tomorrow when Edge is open so if you do have problems you can call them. If you have problems today and try to fix them yourself, you run the risk of bricking your truck, having to tow it to the dealership, and reflash the pcm.

Yeah, I'm waiting for a weekday anyway. Even if it were a brand new, from-the-store unit, from what I've read from some people, I'm going to wait until a weekday while they're open anyway. I'm a nervous kinda guy I guess, and I'd rather their tech support be availlable to me if something were to go wrong (which I don't anticipate).

But thanks for the info.
