Instead of the Edge

Have any of you simply took your trucks to the dealer after a lift or added bigger tires and allowed them to recalibrate and transmission shift points?

I went in today for my 15k maintenance and spoke with the service manager about adding an Edge and warranty issues. He said if the truck has a problem and it can be traced back to adding the Edge that it would indeed void the warranty.

He went on to say what I should do instead is bring the truck in after I add my lift and new tires and allow him to hook it up to his machine which will recalibrate my speedo and also adjust my shift points in the transmission, which is someting he said the Edge cannot do.

The last thing I want to do is add something to my truck that could have possible costly ramifications in the end. I'm not sure what problems may arise out of adding an Edge, but if I add one and return the truck to stock before taking it in for service can they even tell I reprogrammed the truck to begin with?

Thanks

no as long as you take it back to stock befor hand and remove the edge itself from the truck they cant track it and they wont know you have one.

well several things,
1) yes the edge can adjust shift points and correct tire size.
2) as long as you return to stock, the only thing they can "see" is gaps in memory which happen even in stock tuning.

I'd be interested if someone has gone this route. I'm considering Edge or Xcal2, but am weighing all options. My main concern is the same, need to recal my speedo and shift points so that I can better calculate MPG (FWIW )

If they really want to investigate your computer they (Ford) can indeed find out if you had made modifications to it.

They could also void your warranty because of the lift and larger tires if they trace the problem back to them. Sounds like you already plan to modify the truck so whats one more mod (edge). Just my 2cents

ya you should really check the edge websight. It says on the websight that it adusts shift points, recals for tires and rims as well as alot of other issues. It also gets ride of that annoying throttle lag. The edge handles everything you could want its kinda funny that the guy lied to you and said that the programmers wouldn't do that.

One of my buddies who works for Ford told me to get mine. He just told me to disconnect it before I took it in.

Why would the lift kit not void the warranty? I guess he forgot about that.

You can adjust your speedo by tire size/gear ratio on the Edge and you can adjust shift points, if I am not mistaken. If I am wrong, can someone please correct me.

Sounds like they just want some more money for adjusting your shifts points and such. If they are going to do it for free, I would go for it.

Nice truck BTW.

I called two different Ford dealerships today and asked the same question about simply recalibrating my speedo.

Both dealerships were willing to do it - for $92.00 or $94.50. At least the price is constant. Both also said that they would need the truck for at least 1.5 hours.

Thanks for the replies guys and I figured the manager was probably just giving me a scare tactic, I will end up getting an Edge really soon. Have a chance to buy one used for $275 shipped, but a little hesitant since the guy doesn't seem to have any pictures he can send me.
