Pully install help?

I am almost posative this is in the wrong forum but I wasn't sure where to put this.

Anyways the instructions say you need an impact wrench. Is there any way around this with an auto? Thanks for any help

i would think that would only work if it were a standard. on an automatic it will not lock until the tranny has pressure. and we dont want you working on it while it is running. they also make pulley strap wrenches to hold pullies.

yep the kits for the lightnings come with a strap to lock the conveter. it uses one of the bolts for the inspectoin cover and one of nuts off torque coverter. i woudnt suggest using the truck running to try to break it loose. if my shop told me to try that , i believe id be findin another shop. but thats just my .02

They told me to leave the truck off. But they said that is how they do the corvette. Not sure if something is different there. Looks like I will be looking for a shop to install since I don't have an impact wrench

HI fright,

Well, you can always rent an impact wrench in most towns, and you only need it for a little while - but that is the best way to install the new crankshaft pulley.

Now you don't' want to impact it in and just keep hammering on it, the impact is used simply to *seat* the new pulley - then you want to loosen that bolt and then torque it to the proper spec, as noted in the docs - that is the correct way to install it.

Last - remember that the longer bolt provided is *only* used to START the pulley on, do NOT attempt to seat it with that longer bolt, as you can damage the crankshaft - this too, is pointed out in the docs, so just remember those details, and if you have any problems or questions, you can call us here, OK?

Thanks & good luck!
