Which One?

Hi, I'm new to thread. Have been F150 owner for last 6 yrs. Currently own 2004 F150 SCREW, 5.4 L. Interested in applying a programmer/chip to truck. Truck has 43,900 mi right now. Everything is OEM in engine bay. Cost of chip not as important to me than durability/function aspect of part. Would greatly appreciate any input to thread. I look forward to blogging with everyone out there in future. Thanks.

I would get an XCAL II. You can get a good amount of power out of it, and you can adjust many perimeters

I agree with Built54.

I would also get the Xcalibrator from Troyer Performance. If you get the Xcal from Troyer you get three tunes of your choice custom written for your truck. That will do more for you than just buying an off the shelf tuner with the generic tuning.

Read more posts on this board and you will see that many members here agree that that is the best way to go.

Hi WVU F150,

Welcome to F-150 Online!

And it sounds like you've been an F-150 owner for some time now - excellent!

Your 2004 truck (unless it's a "Heritage" model, which was basically a left-over 2003 with the previous body style) most likely has the new ETC (Electronic Throttle Control, commonly referred to as "throttle by wire" - so there is no more throttle cable so there is no direct linkage connecting the gas pedal to the throttle body any more) system, which is calibrated very poorly from the factory - it almost feels like nobody is home under the hood when you press on the throttle, especially in the lower rpms and on part-throttle.

We completely recalibrate all of that so that it gives much better throttle response (of course, we provide much better throttle response even on the older non-ETC trucks, too), so that it feels much more willing to deliver performance when you need it.

What we do is to provide you with a set of 3 different custom tunes, set up for each individual vehicle and it's owners needs & preferences - this gets you the best possible raw power & performance gains, as well as the best shifting characteristics in the automatics, much better powertrain response and overall driveability, without compromising any aspect of your vehicle's durability or reliability.

Most people with these F-series trucks here come to us for our tuning, as we are the only company that truly specializes in modifying these trucks to the degree that we do, and we have specialized in these trucks for 15 years now, far longer than anyone else in this industry - we actually provide assistance to many other manufacturers of performance parts & tuning companies from time to time, as we are very well known for our expertise from specializing in this vehicle platform.

For your tuning needs, we provide you with a hand-held plug-n-play tuner that is highly advanced, and has 3 different Troyer Performance custom tunes loaded into it set up for each individual vehicle (so that you aren't dealing with compromised "canned" tuning designed for all similar vehicles), and this tuner also has complete enhanced-parameter diagnostic capabilities built into it, as well as built-in datalogging & many other features, so it's a very nice unit that is highly advanced & backed by a Lifetime warranty. We also provide a special discount to members of F-150 Online like yourself.

This is of course just some quick brief info - for more details, please give us a quick call at our number listed below & we'll be more than happy to go over all of this with you thoroughly, answer any questions, etc., so that you know exactly what you are getting into and what we can do for your vehicle.

The bottom line is that we will wake that truck up very nicely, and make it much more enjoyable to drive without compromising anything it was designed to be able to do from the factory - in fact, it will be *more* capable, and still have your normal factory reliability (in many cases, the automatic transmission actually last longer thanks to our changes that reduce slippage), etc.

Thanks for your post, & we look forward to hearing from you!

Good luck with your truck,
