XCal2 & Tow/Haul mode?

I've had my XCal2 & tunes now for a few weeks and am lovin' em. But I was wondering how my Tow/Haul mode will work in conjunction with the tunes? Should I use it? Or should I just load up my Tow tune when I plan on hauling stuff and leave Tow/Haul mode off?

I could be wrong, but I always thought that tow/haul mode just took what ever tune was in the PCM/ECM and just held lower gears longer.

Are you by chance refering to the "OD" overdrive??
There is no tow/haul mode...When you want to tow you simply retune your vehicle to the towing tune....overdrive is not an issue. Some use it while towing and some don't.

I was thinking they just held the gears longer, but when I was stock and put it in tow/haul the truck seemed to have more off-idle power.... dunno.

Marc, my truck's a '05 F250 SD... I don't think I can lock-out OD if I wanted.

You definitely need to load the Tow tune before towing or hauling anything heavy, assuming you are running a performance tune now. Your liturature that should have arrive with your tunes cover this aspect. I'm not sure about the tow/haul button, I think I'd use it (and will when I tow with mine). I like the way it holds the gears and assists in engine braking.

The tunes really do a number on these, don't they? I'm lovin' mine too.

What lift/levelling kit did you use to fit those 35 inch Coopers?

Hi Melovidov21,

On the SuperDuty trucks that have the Torqueshift 5-speed tranny, your tow-haul mode is not affected by our tuning, it will do exactly what it is designed to do from the factory.

So when towing, load up a towing-compatible tune, and then use your Tow/Haul mode however you like, just like you normally would!

And just a quick FYI so you'll know for future purposes, as we point out in the docs that we send out with our tunes - any time you are trying to get information from us in a timely manner, the thing to do is to call us. We get by here as often as possible, but this is not where we provide Tech Support - that is done only by phone or in person, so any time you need quick info, please just give us a quick call so we can help you as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your post, & have fun!
