Superchips or Hypertech for 2001 5.4?

I think I'm gonna purchase a computer programmer for my 5.4 Supercrew. I've narrowed my choices down to the Hypertech and Superchips tuners. Does anyone have a recommendation as to which one?

Hi Wandell.

2 questions, first. 1) What benefits are you looking for from a tuner? and 2) How did you narrow your choices down to just these two?

Mainly I want to reprogram my speedometer and gain a little performance. I'm not looking for a huge performance boost. The only performance mod to my truck is a K&N filter and a drilled out airbox. These two just seem to be the most popular and have the best price.

I would think the Edge had surpassed those two. I know if it were me, I would definitly choose the Edge. You get about 25 horse power, plus the adjustability, plus the gauges.

Well then, both devices should handle the task. Since both are close in price, I think customer service could be the deciding factor. From what I've seen, heard, and read, Superchips is better in that department.

Good luck,

Joey

Does anyone know how much power you can gain with the other two? I really wasn't expecting 25 hp with just a programmer.

I got the 25 hp from one of the members that had their truck dynoed and that was what I recall him getting. What ever it is, it is very noticable on mine.

I wouldn't expect to see much hp gain if you ran 87 octane from either device. You might feel a slight difference in shifting characteristics, but that's it.

Up the octane level and you might see 8 to 15 more horses. Depends.

Yeah, ain't it a shame we can't use one to get 100 hp like the Powerstrokes! A lot of guys at FTW seem to like the Superchips better. I found a website that has the Hypertech for $282 and the Superchips for $299. The Hypertech has a lifetime warranty while the Superchips is one year.

Yeah. Basically what your getting is a device to alter the rev limiter, speed limiter, correct the speedo and odom for tire size changes or gears, and pull trouble codes. The slight changes in shifting, hp, and tq can be considered.....extras.?

If you are speaking of the Hypertech and the Superchips, that may be correct, but I know fromm personal experience, the Edge really woke my truck up. Made it fun to drive. It has more torque and HP. It may be 15, 20 or near 25, but it made a LOT of difference. It pulls much harder and gets the rpms much quicker.

Blue, pretty sure Wandell was asking about Superchips and Hypertech. I suffer from lots of faults but reading comprehension is normally not one of them.

But yeah, the "my wife is better looking than your wife" mantra always seems to kick in here.

From all I've read from Wandell's posts, he ain't no dummy.

I knew what he was asking, i was wondering if you were including the Edge in your statement or if you were speaking of just the 2 he asked about. I too, am known for my reading comp. My typing ain't so good tho.

Mine either.

If he asks about the Edge, I'll refrain from bad typing and use my reading comp skills on your posts.
