Tuner Question

Hello. I am fairly new to tuners, and just have a question. Does using a tuner do any damage to the engine, short or long term?

life is a gamble and it is your turn to roll the dice.Read all you can and then figure out if you want to play the game or not.you can call the companies providing the tunes and ask questions to get a better idea what suits you. RESEARCH,RESEARCH,RESEARCH

if your truck is still under a warranty and u get a tuner, if it were to do damage, u can always tune the motor back to stock and take it in to get serviced and theyll never know

They will know. It has been an established fact that they can find a code thrown indicative of modification to the PCM. Do a little research and you will find more on the topic. Unless you plan on beating the !@#$% out of it, I wouldn't worry.

That fact has yet to be established or proven.
If you think it has show us please.

Tuner Question

Typically if one was to reset the computer by unplugging the battery and leaving off for 5 minutes or so, or resetting the Edge programmer back to stock settings, the onboard system would be in learn mode for approx 40 miles or so then it finalizes the settings. If you reset the computer it takes some period of time/miles to finalize, then the system will report normally. If you have your truck serviced (during the self-learn cycle) that is what the on-board computer would report, afterwards it wouldn't be apparent. That is how you can beat the emmissions test if one has a check engine light.

This worked fine on a 97 F150 with a 4.6L motor for three years, till I traded it in for a new truck.

Hi quikshot,

What really matters is the actual tuning -

Now, CAN there be things done via tuning that could potentially harm a vehicle? Sure!

The more relevant questions is, *does* this generally happen? And the answer there is no, not among the top-tier tuners.

Your best bet is this regard is to use the best tuning available, and on these trucks, we have more tuning time on them and have custom-tuned more of them than anyone, as we have specialized in these trucks for 15 years now. This is why so many people here come to us for their tuning needs, we are well known for our results. The changes we make are not going to harm your vehicle - we have been here on this forum for the better part of 10 years now, and you can go back thru the posts and see no track record of vehicles being harmed from our tuning, and there are thousands of posts here from people who we have tuned.

The bottom line is, with *proper* tuning, you can easily enjoy better performance, driveability, shifting, and so many other aspects being improved with no loss of durability or reliability - remember, even things like the Roush supercharger come with replacement powertrain warranties, and they add a LOT more power, so that gives you some kind of idea of what these trucks can take, when modified sensibly using top-quality parts.

If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, OK?

Thanks for your post, & best of luck with your truck!
