Actually....the BBB is an effective organization of the proper channels are utilized. Businesses can't take the chance of having an arbitration or a possible hearing due to their ill conceived business practices. This is particularly useful in smaller businesses. The penalties and fines that are potentially levied by the BBB are sometimes signifigant. Small business owners operate on thin margains, and paying large legal fees and fines can take a chunk out of their bottom line.

I guess what gets me the most on this topic, is the lack of integrity exhibited by some of you guys. So it appears like the website made a mistake, and somewhere they know it and are trying to fix it. In fact, the have an existing policy for just this occurance. However, now everyone wants something for nothing because of an oversight. Good catch, no question, but the stand up thing to do would be to tell the guys at the business there was a mistake and move on. Now we have lawyer talk, false ads etc. Get over it. Someone is trying to make a buck, just like you, and you want to rip him off with a lawsuit. The new American Dream I guess....find a legal loophole and exploit the hell out of it.

As a partner in several small businesses, I'd be more inclined to give you the discount for pointing out the mistake, rather than trying to hang me for it.

The BBB is only good for viewing complaints logged. They are of little use when trying to resolve one. They can try, they can arbitrate but they have no legal powers. In my case the company I filed a complaint against was a BBB member (using all the "proper channels") and its President was on the board of the local chapter of the BBB.
The BBB has no power to fine or force a company to resolve your complaint. A member company can lose its membership. A non member company could care less and will only get an unresolved complaint on their file.

Answer / Solution

When a BBB receives a complaint, we present the complaint to the business and request its assistance in working out the problem with the unhappy customer. Most companies are grateful for the opportunity to resolve problems with their customers since it often means their patronage will be preserved.
BBB members agree to respond to consumer complaints presented by the BBB, and lose their membership if they do not. Most other companies, regardless of whether they are BBB members, also cooperate with the BBB.

However, some companies do not want to work with the Bureau and/or their customers to resolve complaints. Because the BBB is not a government or law enforcement agency, the Bureau cannot force a reply from a company; nor can it administer sanctions. However, a company's unwillingness to respond to the BBB or a customer will be noted in the company's reliability report the BBB provides to the public. The customer is free to pursue other alternatives.

I agree no one should expect a company to lose money over a simple typo or website computer error. If you thought you could get a 400 dollar tuner for 1 dollar I have some real estate to sell you.

i think if a company cant oversee whats going on in a store or the internet may pay better attenton if they had to sell the product at the advertised price.and i will buy your realestate for fifty cents and a tuner for a buck if its advertised as such.ps. somebody was running the computer that made the error and probably should have double checked before they hit enter.simple error,i dont think so.
