Dyno Suggestions?

Hey everyone,
I got in on the group buy for the Xcal, and I'm excited about getting it and adding some spark to my ride. I live in So. Cal, Orange County to be exact. Anybody have any suggestions for where to get the truck dynoed? I would prefer to work with guys who have an idea about what I'm trying to datalog. Any help would be great. BTW, I know the tuner is pretty much only going to work on my truck, but will I be able to use it on another vehicle just for diagnostics, like reading the OBDII codes? Thanks again. This site is invaluable to me so far!

I'd have the truck tuned while you are at the dyno shop so you don't have to go back-and-forth...IMHO you'll save $$$ in the long run versus repeatedly paying for dyno time.

I'd choose Swanson based on my experience with both of these shops.
I run a Swanson tune and am happy with it.

Both shops have good reputations.

You should tell them what you plan on doing, not sure if their egos want to datalog for another tuner.

yes u should be able to read trouble codes on other fords and datalog with it on other vehicles just not be able put a performance program in another ride. if u can go to a dynojet dyno so u can just send the data log and dyno sheet to mike and get tunes tweaked, if u use a mustang dyno u have to do a lil spreadsheet because the a/f is hard to read on graph.

Thanks for the info. I thought I'd be able to read trouble codes on other Fords which is good as we have two rangers in the family. Thanks to Jordan not Mike. I'll check those two out. Hopefully I won't need to be on the dyno that much but it will be interesting to see what I'm putting to the wheels.

Hi.

How exactly is that going to work?

TNC just paid for an Xcal2, 3 custom tunes, and a 60-day free adjustment period (provided proper logging data is submitted).

The local dyno guys, to 'dyno-tune' TNC's truck, would need access to the tune files in the xcal2 before they could tweak it - that isn't gonna happen because they are locked down to protect the dealer.

And if you are referring to completely wiping TNC's X2 and loading a local dyno shop's tunes, well then TNC just wasted good money, and he *very* likely won't get tunes that are anywhere near as as good as what he paid the best F-150 tuner to provide, after all of that.

TNC - my advice - you live in an area literally saturated with dyno shops; there's got to be several who would be willing to do what Mike's asking. 'Shop' around . If the shop has some BS 'ego' issues, you found the wrong shop.

And, in most cases, you should only have to do this once, unless you mod in the future, which obviously would require retuning. Call Mike. Whatever.

Good luck.

Cheers
Bubba

I will be calling Mike when the time comes. I was just hoping someone else in my area had already done the work. I'm not paying twice. If I have to , I'll do the tests on a strip of road myself. It's tedious , but not rocket science.

Hi.

Agree - not rocket science ( BTW that's a misnomer - should be rocket engineering ).. and a good thing to, as simple-minded as I am

I did not find it tedious, actually it was kinda fun. Scary, but fun.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

One thing you can do is to drop by www.dynojet.com - and look for dyno shops in your area, you will find *many* of them, and you should not have any trouble finding one that can do the datalogging - what we ask for in terms of datalogging is actually very straightforward, it's simply the info any tuner would need to dial in the tuning of any FoMoCo vehicle.

You can always take our datalogging docs to a local dyno facility and ask them if they can do that - and don't plunk your money down until you find a shop that says yes - again, that should not be hard to find at all, and if your local dyno facility has any questions about this, they can feel free to give us a call and we'll be happy to go over this with them, OK?

Thanks, good luck & call us if you need any help on this!
