Talking intake modification and tunning

http://home.att.net/~bill.fisher/index2.htm

that is a link to an intake modification. i believe that the 4.6 3v mustang guys buy plates for this and tuning is needed. i was wondering if tuning would be needed for us. sounds like it would do to the increased volumn and flow. and as i understand it some low end torque is lost as well.

Making the runners shorter, or opening them up like he did will improve high-rpm horsepower, but at the same time it will kill a lot of torque. This typically is not something that you would want to do on a truck.

Plus, unless you are doing a modification like this with the help of a flow bench and engine dyno, you are really just taking a shot in the dark and you can end up killing the flow and have less HP than you started with.

Amen, well said - this is *not* something you would want to do to one of these 5.4 3V trucks, I agree.

Remember, those 4.6's rev a lot higher than these trucks do, and they weigh a lot less, too - and even at that, not many 3V Mustang owners do that modification, it's mostly the drag racers. It does not help driveability on the street, as it reduces part-throttle torque noticeably, and certainly wold not help fuel mileage in these trucks, either.

I'm all for getting all the power you can, but this is one mod I would never do to one of our trucks - just FYI.

I hope that helps,
