How low does my tank need to be?

I just got my tunes, gotta make time to get them loaded, but I have a question.

I have 87 octane in my tank now. I'm a hair under 1/4 tank. I want to load the 93 octane tune. How low is low enough to fill up with 93 and be safe?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Ok, thanks. Guess I'll load the 87 tune or just wait til the light comes on.

To be extra safe you really should fill up with 93 and burn through that entire tank before switching to that performance tune... I want to say that I've seen Mike say this before.

I have been mainly running the 87 perf tune the last several months. Just switched over to the 93 tow tune last weekend to get ready to pull a trailer to the Nascar race in 2 weeks. I was down to 1/4 tank of 87 and filled up with 93. I have had no knock issues at all so you should be fine. Good luck and you will love the premium gas tunes trust me!

I brought my tank just under 1/4 and filled up with 93 and never had a problem.

You can fill it up with 87 & then run the 93 tune. The engine has a knock sensor that will prevent it from destroying itself due to detonation. Now is that a smart thing to do? Absolutely not. Just wait to the low fuel warning and you'll definitely be safe. I would venture a guess that you could fill up around a 1/4 tank and be OK, if you really want to give yourself a warm fuzzy, get some octane booster. At the rate the 5.4 guzzles gas, you're talking tops a 2 day wait.

KC-10 FE out...

I have run the 93 tune with 87 in the tank. Never heard a knock. The only time I have heard a knock was with one tank of Exxon 93. They must have made a mistake with that batch.

87 is ok

no matter what some will tell you the tuner doesnt chnage the timing enough to require high octane fuel
