Question Selling FLASHPAQ, Buying XCAL 2. How long b4 I can use it w/new engine?

Don't get me wrong, I love the SUPERCHIPS FLASHPAQ I bought about 5 months ago. It woke up my 2005 5.4 and man oh man how it improved the shifting. It does plenty for me.
I just want to try the XCAL2 that everyone keeps on bragging/talking about.
I am going to order it Monday when they (Troyer) open up.
So I am going to sell the FLASHPAQ.
Now I am sure I will get alot of comments on how I will love the XCAL2 but I have a very serious question and concern.
I am getting a new engine installed in my truck this week.

My concern is how long should I wait before I install the new programmer on the new engine?
I returned the stock program from the FLASHPAQ prior to my truck going to FORD so it has a stock program in it now. (in which they more than verified) Plus I requested them to re-flash the PCM for me with the newest updates prior to return.

I am still ordering the XCAL2 tomorrow but I don't want to rush putting it on too soon.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Load the TP tunes right away, it won’t hurt anything but you’re going to have to wait and see what PCM code you get with the new engine, because the custom tunes are built code specific

Hi Heavy Hauler,

Generally speaking, there is no set time you need to wait before you can start doing modifications.

Now in general, we do recommend putting a coupla-few hundred miles on a brand new vehicle, or on a brand new engine or automatic transmission before modifying it, just so you know that everything is OK with your new goods - just basic CYA, if you get my drift.

But there is no break-in period per se anymore, heck, you can install a supercharger on a brand new vehicle if you like, and that is pretty commonly done thee days.

I say put about 200-300 miles on it just to be sure your new engine is fine, and then feel free to load your tunes.

Also, since you are getting a new engine, it';s best for us to send the unit out blank to read your vehicle's PCM, as in many cases when the change the engine, they will also update the PCM too - so that is something that should be mentioned when you call us, so that we make sure to get your computer code correct the first time, just in case it was changed for the engine swap.

Good luck!

Well I actually spoke to Crystal today for a while at Troyer. Very nice woman.
Very helpful and very knowledgeable.
I went ahead and ordered the XCAL2 w/out tunes. I will wait for around 1000-2000 mile before I attempt to put the tuner on it.
That should take about a week or two to get the miles on it.
I am pretty stoked about getting this thing.
I never knew the difference of one bank tuning versus four bank tuning. Amazing what you learn from someone who knows what they are talking about.
Thanks Crystal and Troyer Performance.
