Tuners and unplugging the battery

Hello all. If your battery is unplugged for more than 20 minutes would the pcm go back to factory defaults even if it has been flashed with the Edge?

No you will not lose the tuning but it will reset the keep alive memory and the adaptive strategy will have to relearn your engine and driving style. Any time you take it to the dealer you should return it to stock in case they need to reflash your PCM. If they flash it with the tuning in it your tuner won't recognize the truck any longer and you will have to pay EDGE to unlock it so you can use it again.

Exactly, very well said!

You could tune your PCM, then pull it out of the vehicle and leave it on a shelf for a year, and it still will not lose it's actual tuning - it would simply go thru the relearn process once it was reinstalled in the vehicle.

Think of this like the BIOS chip on the mainboard of your PC - it's a ROM chip, not volatile memory like RAM, in other words.
