What is a tuner?

I've been reading post after post about tuners? What exactly are they, and what do they do? Is it a must have? Also I've heard about to different ones. There is the Edge, and the X cal. Is there really a big difference in them?

It's a device you plug into your truck's ecu. They swap tunes with your factory ecu programming. Most have different setting options for more power and torque. These generally allow you to choose between octane settings-more power, higher octane. You can adjust for different tire size, change shift points, shift firmness, so on. I have a Superchips tuner, so I can't tell you much about the other two, but someone on here will

They reprogram the trucks computer to pep things up. I got an XCal2 and I like it. A lot of people like the Edge too. Keep on checking out posts, that's the best way to get the info

Hi JNC995,

Just read the posts here, all the info you could want is already here - you can also make use of the excellent SEARCH feature to look up info on this, too.

In short, a "tuner" in this sense is someone (like me) who actually has the knowledge and skills to retune these computer-controlled vehicles for more power and better performance in many ways, from raw horsepower to better transmission shifting, removal of the top speed limiter, better throttle response, etc., etc.

Now when some people refer to a "tuner," they actually mean the hardware that we load our tuning into - like the XCalibrator 2, for example - that is what we use to load our Troyer Performance custom tuning into, which is what most people here use, as we have specialized in these trucks for 15 years now, far longer than anyone - so we are well known for getting the best results.

We also have a special Group Buy going on right now for registered members of F-150 Online, so now is a great time to take advantage of getting into the best tuning available to enhance your truck.

Also, in case you are wondering - this is NOT something that is going to hurt your vehicle or shorten it's life - you will simply enjoy the additional power and performance - so if you are looking for more power and performance, then our custom tuning is the best bang for the buck way to get started.

I hope this brief info helps, & please feel free to call us at our number listed below to go over any of this in more detail, we'll be happy to help.

Thanks for your post, & good luck with your truck!
