Edge Evo MPH reading
Edge Evo MPH reading
I noticed that the Edge Evo is reading MPH up to 8mph faster just cruising around town and such. I was wondering because I have a custom gauge face cover and didnt think they would be off that much. But i'm guessing the computer is 100% accurate over the factory gauges (I think). Just seeing if anyone else has noticed this. If so i'll use it as my speedo too

(odmeter) numerous times on a 5 mi. check section that I travel on everday.
My speedo seems to be about 4 MPH fast, which jives with what the Edge
is reading.
Check out the tire size and gear ratio that the program is using.
The mph speeds should be quite close between the EDGE and the dash display providing there is no known problem.
The speedo uses the output shaft speed and calculates against the gear ratio and tire rolling size to make the speedo register right.

Bill at EDGE addressed this last year after the EDGE came out. Ford has a problem with the Speedo. On most trucks it is 2-3 mph off. I drive an 05 SC worktruck and own a 05 Supercrew. Both are off 2-3 mph on the speedo. I have the EDGE on my Supercrew and used the rolling method to get the odometer accurate after going to larger tires, but the speedo is still off according to my GPS units. (I have 2).
So you have a choice of a speedo that is off and an accurate odometer or go with the accurate speedo and have your odometer read slow.

Did a search and found the post where Bill aka ASEMechanic, discussed the speedo error.
Okay, one quick word about the speedometer. Well, maybe not so quick. The speedometer and the Evolution get their signal from the exact same place... the PCM. On practically every truck we've tested (regardless of tire size / gear ratio setting) the speedometer reads 1-2 MPH higher than the value coming from the PCM (and subsequently the Evolution). Given the analog nature of the speedometer, we just accept this as normal. We have speed tested with both our Dyno and a GPS and have been dead on with the Evolution MPH while the speedometer is 1-2 MPH high (always high for some strange reason). Even the factory scan tool indicates a discrepancy. However, the odometer being digital does read out correctly despite the variance in the speedometer. Again, it all falls back to setting tire size and gear ratio correctly.
