heres what i'm making my decision on can the edge be changed from level 2 to 3 on the fly or is it difficult and a timley process i guess what i'm saying is i never know when i will be having to tow something and i will need to change to tow mode quickly and easily and how easy and fast can the xcal be changed from tow to performance. I'm looking for something to take the throttle lag out and i want to be able to feel the power gains.

To change from level 2 to 3 will take less than a minute. You will have to turn the truck off and then on and your done.

Hi.

deisel88 - basically a wash - both can switch tunes in minutes. None can do it 'on-the-fly' per se - you need to shut off the truck to reflash the pcm.

NASTY-FX4 - no offense taken bro . Actually TP does not advocate cat removal, and his tunes are equally at home on stock trucks (like mine), or wild-a$$ modded ones. Like the others who chose the Xcal2, it's a matter of how flexible & in-depth you want to go for a pcm tune modifcation - I chose full custom tuning, with the required datalogging. To be clear - I'm NOT questioning anyone else's choice, okay?

MosineeFX4 - in all cases you'd need an external wideband if you wish to do it yourself, or the datalogging done on a local dyno where the A/F's are captured and provided. The Xcal2 would capture the rest.

The whole point is, you just don't have the granularity to adjust the A/F's completely with the Edge's adjustment capability, even if you had the datalogging to provide you with the feedback necessary to to it.

I'm sure you could account/adjust for some of it, but for myself, I would not be comfortable it would provide safe AND maximum sustainable performance.

Yeah, as Edge indicates you can richen it up (or over-richen), but running too rich isn't really the best approach either - not for power anyway. And to arbitrarily richen without the data, as a lot of folks seem to be doing is just not the answer. Same goes for arbitrarily adding timing without data for that octane level.

Silverfish - good question - perhaps it's too soon, or those folks are not reporting it, or the symptoms are being attributed to other causes? Someone else want to take a stab at answering that?

Peace, fellas

Cheers
Bubba

So, if I were to get an Xcal2 from Mike I would actually have to have the datalogging done at a local dyno or purchase a wideband sensor and do it myself? Are they expensive? Do most people that purchase the Xcal2 do this? If they don't, aren't they in the same boat that those that have the Edge are in? Seems to me we should be hearing about a lot of F150 engine problems if there are so many running around with a lean condition..............although it makes me want to look into having my truck dynoed.

Hi.

At this point, I think it would be best to call Mike & discuss. I wouldn't know what most people do, only what was recommended to me, and it made enough sense that I took the advice.

You already know my preference - I bought a wideband - it was worth it because I could not find a decent facility I was comfortable with locally.

Bottom line: you'll know, unequivocally, what your truck is doing and that if adjustments are required, they will be applied. NO guesswork, NO worries. Just the best custom tuning you are going to find for this platform.

That group buy just sweetens the deal . Dang - I just keep missing those, Mike !!!

Call 'em - and have LOTS of quarters handy !

Cheers
Bubba

I ran the EDGE Evo on my 04 on level 2 for over 10,000 miles and had no problems. Now I have it installed on my 06 and it hasn't had any problems either. If you listen to all the nay sayers the EDGE will infect your mind, curve your spine, and lose the war for the allies.

I find it ironic also..........I might as well burn E-85 on top of it LMFAO!

Guys - sadly, you've got it all wrong. I was merely pointing out the risks as previously documented. Not being judgemental.

I am glad you've had no problems. I sincerely hope you continue to have no problems. Lots of folks with either of these tuners have had no reported problems out of the box.

My path led me to the conclusion that I would prefer to be absolutely certain that the mods I undertake are safe. Nothing more. It's a choice and not a mantra to force anone else's hand. OK?

Either of you folks can resolve this (as I did), or not, by simply calling Mike - just the price of a long distance call. No agenda. No brainwashing - just some very honest, straight-shooting advice stemming from a wealth of hard-won experience. Your choice.

BTW - Silverfish - my truck will shortly be fully broken in & I can begin the datalogging. About another week. I won't really know if changes are required or if the tune is 'spot on' until I have the data recorded & sent back. I did this before on my last truck & it was a hoot.

EDIT - Holy crap! Just noticed, Friday the 13th, and this is my 999th post

Cheers
Bubba

Show us your datalog when you get it done, I would be interested in seeing some numbers. Thanks

If I get the Edge, do I need to tell them that I have the reflash from the dealer on my '05, or does it matter. I am on the edge of the fence about getting a tuner. I have so many questions and concerns,,,,like can I buy my cai and exhaust later and it still recognize them and tune accordingly?
