Thanks!

So I have a small credit towards a purchase at TP. I was thinking about ordering a 4th tune for my Xcal2.

I've already ordered:

91 perf
87 perf
87 tow

What do you guys think I should order for a fourth tune? Or should I just order a gatorback belt?

91 tow?

Hi Duke,

Well, between those 2 choices I think it's really a matter of how much you tow - if you tow a fair amount, then yes, I would suggest having a 4th tune that is for towing on premium gas - that way you have the highest possible power when towing, and between all 4 tunes, you have both performance and towing tunes for low octane and high octane, for maximum flexibility.

Now if you rarely tow, then I'd say put that towards some other type of mod - I don't remember what all you have, but maybe a set of underdrive pulleys - or, like you said, maybe a Gatorback belt.

So my suggestion is to think about how often you tow, and how much weight you tow, as if you are towing on any kind of regular basis, OR if you are towing a significant amount of weight (say, over about 3500 lbs), then it would be more helpful to get that 4th tune for towing on higher octane so you can have maximum power & torque when towing.

I hope that info helps,

Hey Mike,

Yeah it helps! I was talking with Crystal friday I believe and she said the same thing. Since I tow extremely infrequently (less then 5 times a year), I decided to go with a gator back belt to prevent the belt squeel you said sometimes happens with the stock belt under heavy load on the tune.

I decided to go with that since I tow so infrequently. I asked Crystal if it would be a really bad thing to use the 87 tow tune if I had 91 octane in the tank and she said while it wasn't a good idea to do frequently, if only going a shorter distance without a heavy load then it wouldn't hurt.

Of course a "short distance" and "heavy load" are not defined...however I'm going to assume that would mean trips less than 100 miles with a load under 5000 lbs.

This was in the instance of running the 91 perf tune with 91 octane and then having to sporadically tow something and thus need to bump down to the 87 tow tune.

However, I'm pretty confident that I can anticipate the towing instances and run the 91 out of the tank or time it on an empty tank to switch the tunes appropriately.

I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be hurting anything if my back was against a wall and need to change the tune on the spot.

However, I understand that running a higher octane tune on lower octane gas is an extremely bad thing and under no circumstances acceptable.

Thanks again!

PS. I sent pictures to Anita of the magnaflow catback.
