I'm dying here! tp....? oh and.
Waiting for my tunes..... Have this nice looking completely empty xcal2 starring at me from my dresser.... I know it will be worth the wait, but it's killing me. Gotta wake up this timid 4.6, it's boring! i have heard the 4.6 tends to lose power with a major relief of back pressure.. I have a flowmaster40 3"inltet dual 2" outlet, dumped.. Is that too big of an exuast for the truck? Gonna go hide the tuner so maybe I will stop thinking about it. haha

I might lucky than you, because I'm waiting for my updates from Mike and my Xcal2 was tuned when I recieve it and it works well, but still waiting for any update tunes from Mike:)
|
really?
They sent mine out to me to read the factory code before Mike makes the tunes.. It seems to be empty but maybe I'll check it out again :)
|
Its empty. He had me do the same thing, sent it to me blank so I could read the Hex Code and send it back to them after Ford reflashed my PCM and then wouldn't tell me what strategy they had flashed it to.
But rest assured, Mike will definetly wake up your engine. I know he woke mine up. So I'm now putting down as much RWHP as a stock 5.4L minus the annoying throttle lag. And on top of that, he made the thing so much more fun to drive. Its an agonizing wait....but its sooooo worth it. |
you make the wait harder!
Good to hear that another 4.6 owner is happy! I am looking forward to some tighter shifting, it feels lazy right now. So what is the deal with the under drive pully? What are the benefits? It seems like a relativly cheap upgrade if it adds power.

From Troyer Performance's Website...
"This is a 2-piece set of underdrive pulleys, crankshaft and water pump pulleys are supplied, and are designed for operation on the street - whether your truck is a daily driver, a drag race truck or towing heavy loads, these pulleys are designed specifically for street vehicles, and will provide normal alternator output at just 850 rpm. So you can still do everything the vehicle was designed to do from the factory, including anything from stop & go traffic to towing heavy loads in Summer, drag racing, etc." Basically from what I understand and have seen, the crank pully is smaller and lighter, thereby reducing the amount of weight your crankshaft has to turn. Less weight the crank has to turn = more power available to the rear wheels. The diameter of the water pump pulley is increased to make up for the smaller crank pulley, allowing the stock sized belt to be utilized. Personally, I noticed the difference a lil bit by my "seat of the pants dyno", although, I still need to get it up on a real dyno and see what kind of differance it made in terms of HP. Hope that helped. |
TP is the BEST!

NOTHING! They are so worth the wait. While you are waiting, go get a backup camera installed. If you tow, its great. RollingRock, 87 Performance, 87 Tow, 93 Tow FYI, the 87 Performance is really fun....now i want a 93 Performance.... |
iain,
You are not alone. I have an empty xcal2 waiting for its tunes also. Look on the bright side, if you have a laptop you have an excellent data logger. Any ideas what is troyer's current backlog? |
Any response to his question about back pressure?
I'd like to see them, too. Am curious about exhausts.... |
back pressure?
Right after I asked about the pulleys I found them on troyer's site.haha They sell the idea well. Just switched flowmasters lastnight from one 40 to another 40 just configured differently and noticed a huge difference on the throttle. It feels solid now. I guess the 4.6 is a touchy engine. I would love to get some info on this back pressure issue.. i appriciate all the responses

I do have a laptop.. I like the back up cam idea, but need to stay away from the driving distactions! The dog trying to chew on my face all the time is bad enough.haha

If that's the case, why don't you start searching for it? It's all been discussed before... many times. So, while waiting for your tunes, start reading. You may even be convinced to dump the Blowmaster  ... Here's one: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...little+baffles BTW - received my tunes last week - unbelieveable  Cheers :beers: Bubba |
Hi Iain,
You don't have much longer to wait my friend, you are almost at the top now, just a couple more before yours! They happen to be rather involved tunes, so it may be a coupla-few more days, but you will be enjoying them by no later than this weekend. Right now we are currently running at an average of about 22 business days from the time we get the CPW's back to the time we are done with the tuning, on average. Regarding reducing backpressure, that in and of itself does NOT reduce power. In a poorly designed exhaust system (which is actually the vast majority), the actual ROOT of the problem is a slowing down of the actual exhaust gas velocity due to poor exhaust gas flow engineering - the velocity is reduced, so the cylinder is not evacuated as well and the fresh incoming mixture is not pulled in as well as it could be, and this typically manifests itself as a loss of torquer on part-throttle at virtually any RPM, and a loss of torque at full throttle in the lower rpm ranges and thru the mid-range - and not a big gain in peak horsepower at full throttle at the actual power peak. This is why we "preach" so much about using Magnaflow's exhaust systems, as they are so far the only ones we have seen that actually increase available torque at any throttle position or rpm. Now with that being said, everyone has their preferences, and we hope everyone is happy with whatever they choose. :) |
